— Hello and welcome to our weekly talk show. Today the guest of our radio programme is Mr Trevor, a career development professional, and we are going to speak about choos-ing an appropriate profession. Mr Trevor, a lot of young people face the problem of choosing a profession. What advice can you give them?
— Well, choosing a profession is an involved process that is based on a number of things, including your interests, skills, work-related values, and personality. Traditionally, all the professions are divided into realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising and conventional. This classification is mostly based on personal qualities which the professions require.
— Can you tell us more about each type of this division?
— Sure. Let’s start with the realistic type. Realistic people are rational, no-nonsense and logical. Rather than an abstract problem, they want to know the practical reason. They mostly like working with their hands and in a realistic setting. They often work with machines or equipment either using their physical strength or manual dexterity. These are the people who become carpenters, airplane pilots, dentists, engineers and dietitians. The second type is investigative. An astronomer, laboratory technician, teacher and computer programmer are some of the jobs that investigative people would like. These are the type of individuals who look for the right answers, so they enjoy research, science and mathematics. They want to solve complicated problems, pursue intellectual challenges, and find new ways to explain the physical environment.
— And what about the artistic type?
— Well, people who fall in the artistic category naturally enjoy jobs that are creative, self-expressive and innovative. They also like to solve problems and may be more insightful and rational than other individuals. Variety, change and flexibility are valued most as they look for imaginative ways to display their thoughts and ideas. Some of the artistic jobs include an architect, writer, landscaper, and home decorator.
— What qualities do social jobs require?
— The medical, counselling and social work fields include many people who fall in the social personality type. These are individuals who want to help others and are empathic, generous, and caring. They are team leaders who bring together individuals with

different perspectives. Social jobs include a registered nurse, clinical psychologist, career guidance counsellor, and geriatric social worker.
— And what type of people should choose enterprising professions?
— People who fall in the enterprising personality category. They are very outgoing, verbal and communicative. These are often the entrepreneurs and leaders who bring about change and ways to increase productivity. They enjoy taking risks and are strongly competitive. Enterprising people are business owners, salespeople and company officers. The last category type is conventional. They are people who may be careful, efficient and thorough, but are also very detail-oriented and excellent organizers and record-keepers. These are the individuals who keep everything moving on time and in an orderly fashion. They see the whole picture, and are able to break it down into smaller pieces and find the right process. They include insurance agents, certified public accountants, bookkeepers and career planners.

2. Подання граматичного матеріалу: модальні дієслова.
1) Впр. 6 (с. 171).
Учні ланцюжком читають речення, подані у вправі, та визначають функції модаль-них дієслів.
2) Впр. 7 (с. 172).
Один з учнів зачитує речення, доповнюючи їх. Учитель разом з класом контролює правильність виконання завдань.
3) Впр. 8 (с. 172).
Учні ланцюжком читають правила, подані у вправі, по частинах та перекладають рідною мовою. Учитель коментує та пояснює, якщо необхідно.
4) Впр. 9 (с. 173).
Учні ланцюжком читають речення та доповнюють їх.
5) Впр. 10 (с. 173).
Учні самостійно письмово виконують завдання вправи протягом 3—4 хвилин. По закінченні роботи двоє-троє з них зачитують виписані речення та пояснюють функ-ції модальних дієслів у них. Решта доповнюють, якщо необхідно. Учитель контро-лює правильність відповідей.
6) Впр. 11 (с. 173).
Учні самостійно письмово виконують завдання. По закінченні роботи вони ланцюж-ком зачитують доповнені речення вправи.
7) Впр. 12 (с. 174).
Учні ланцюжком читають доповнені речення. Учитель контролює правильність ви-конання завдань.
