1. Memorize the dialogues:

 

"Think twice before you take any steps." "I will."

 

To be on the safe side don't tell it to anyone." I won't." "Watch your step! The man is very cunning.'

 

Thank you for telling me."

 

2. Compose short dialogues using the table.


 

 


Don't look for trouble. Don't take rash steps. Don't risk it. Don't take chances. Don't jump to conclusions. You wait and see.

3. Give a warning combining the remarks from the table. Look out! Watch out! Be careful! Watch your step! Mind your head!

Mind the steps!

 

Traffic is very heavy here. It's very slippery.

 

There's a train coming. There's danger at every step.

 

You're not too good at driving yet.. It's very dark.

 

The ceiling is low.

 

4. Change the sentences. Give your reasons for the statements made. Model A: Come in time.

 

Mind you come in time, or they'll leave without you. Don't forget.

 

Mind you don't forget, otherwise she'll get offended.

5. React to the statements using one of the following:

6. Answer the questions using pattern sentences.

when you are sure one will be punished for what he did? if you think what you say will come true?

 

if you want to warn somebody against taking risks?

 

when someone is likely to act without considering the consequences? if you are sure that someone will regret what he said or did?

 

if someone is not careful about what he says?

if someone is crossing the street where the traffic is heavy?

 

7. Give warning in the following situations stating the possible con-sequence.

 

Model. Mind your dress! The apple is very ripe. You may squash it and get your dress ruined.

 

1) Your friend is approaching a dirty pool.

 

2) A man is passing by a barbed wire fence.

3) Your sister is about to touch a red-hot iron.

 

4) A child is running up carpeted stairs and you are afraid it may trip over the carpet.

 

5) A monkey at the Zoo is reaching for your neighbour's hat.

6) The chauffeur is driving too fast on a busy road.

 

7) You send your boy for something to your neighbours who have a fierce dog.

 

8. Translate the following.

 

1) Берегись! Поезд подходит!

2) Течение здесь очень быстрое. Будьте осторожны!

 

3) Осторожней! Сегодня очень скользко.

4) Осторожно, тут сломана ступенька!

5) Смотри, не пролей молоко на скатерть.

 


6) Лучше бы вы не ходили через реку. Лед еще тонкий, и можно провалиться.

 

7) Помяните мое слово: она еще намучается с этим ребенком. Она слишком балует его.

 

8) Положи бумажник во внутренний карман. Осторожность никогда не мешает.

 

9) Следите за интонацией – это очень важно.
