Administer any drug or medicine on board in emergencies within the limits of individual qualification
Use of defibrillator within the scope of qualification
Provide and supervise first aid to injured personnel
Dispense medicines and drugs within the constraints of law
Dispense medicines and drugs as part of a medical remedy prescribed by a medical doctor and covered by written, authenticated instructions after consultation with the Master
Maintain the records of drugs and medicines administered and obtain the Master’s signature for all issues of controlled drugs and the monthly drug inventory
Ensure full control of the DDA cupboard such that no unauthorized person may gain access
Maintain stock control over medical stores
Complete Company’s and client’s statutory medical forms whenever required
Maintain the medical log and keep medical records of all personnel updated
Maintain all the ship’s medical equipment (e.g. first aid station, lifeboat first aid kits, eye wash station)
Liaise with onshore medical personnel, when required
Advise the Master when a communicable disease is suspected and before initiating a MEDIVAC
Ensure that the MEDIVAC procedures are adhered to
Complete the medical parts of Company statutory accident/death forms
Perform the weekly hygiene inspection round and ensure that the hygiene report is raised and countersigned, and that copies are distributed
Advise the Master on programs of preventative medicine
Advise the crew on matters of health and hygiene, especially with regards to food handlers
Ensure samples of potable water are satisfactorily and send samples ashore as per company’s instructions – consult Master/Chief Engineer, when necessary to ensure compliance with applicable standards
Familiarize First Aiders on board with hospital layout, inventory system, location of medicines and instruments – perform training on a regular basis (at least monthly) pass on results to Master
Maintain and control log and database for the control of chemicals – assist safety officer in performing control of chemicals training when required
AUTHORITY
Organize hospital services and prescribe drugs within his scope of qualifications.
Liaise with onshore medical personnel as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
As per Company external qualification and training matrix
Fluent in verbal and written English
EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years in a similar capacity of which at least one (1) year on board an offshore construction barge/ vessel
