1.1.1.1 Marine Crew

 

1.1.1.1.1 Master

  DEPUTY   Chief Mater
RESPONSIBLE TO Operations Department (Operating Company)
OBJECTIVE The Master is responsible for the ship under his command according to Bahamas legislation, international conventions and regulations and according to Company specific instructions

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Master has the overriding authority and the responsibility to take whatever action he considers to be in the best interest for the safety of the crew, vessel and the marine environment and to request the Company’ s assistance as may be necessary.

He is the head of the Vessel Management Team (VMT). The Master is responsible for:

 

· Implementing the Company’s QHSE policy (e.g. meetings, inspections, maintenance etc.)

· Motivating the crew in the observation of this policy (e.g. by personal behaviour, implementation of the Company’s incentive scheme(s), promoting safety and pollution prevention matters).

· Implementing and maintaining the Vessel Management system as issued by Company.

· Issuing orders in a clear and simple manner.

· Reviewing Health, Safety and Pollution prevention activities.

· Reviewing the Safety Management System and propose improvements to the Company on regularly basis.

· Reporting and investigating HSE non-conformities, accidents, near-misses, hazardous situations and other matters with implications for the safe operation of the Vessel or pollution risks.

· Requesting assistance from the Company as may be deemed necessary.

· Executing the on-board training program as directed by Company.

· Ensuring that all controlled documents on board related to HSE issues and SMS activities are up to date as per Company procedure.

· Ensuring that statutory and Class Surveys are carried out in time.

· Ensuring that DP operations and maneuvers are carried out as directed by the Company.

· Directing the crew in emergency situations.

· Controlling essential supplies and stock.

· Manoeuvring and control in the vessel in all navigable waters.

· Monitoring and controlling of all persons embarking / dis-embarking the vessel and maintain personnel onboard listings.

· Controlling all Marine operations and all maneuvers of approaching vessels and cargo barges.

· Issuing standing instructions to watch keeping personnel.

AUTHORITY

· To take any actions he finds necessary to ensure the safety of the crew, the vessel and the marine environment.

· Request assistance from Company as he finds necessary

· Request assistance from local agents as he finds necessary

· Assign special duties to the crew

· Issue instructions and orders to crew.
