· Keep the radio station and GMDSS station on the navigation bridge fully operational and ensure maintenance provisions as laid down in the SOLAS and radio regulations are adhered to
· Keep a radio logbook
· Ensure all outgoing correspondence is approved by Master (General and Marine), Chief Engineer (Technical) and Superintendent (Projects)
· Log incoming and outing correspondence and arrange distribution accordingly
· Ensure that operations manuals for communication equipment are available in the radio room and understood prior to operation of telecommunication equipment
· Ensure that the Project Safety Manual and List of Emergency Contact Numbers are available in the radio room and on the GMDSS panel for each project
· Ensure that radio medical systems and procedures, ship position - reporting systems and procedures (e.g. AMVER) and the use of IMCO Merchant Ship Search and Rescue Manual (Mersar), with particular reference to radio communication, are available and adhered to
· Ensure the safety, urgency and distress procedures are adhered to
· Ensure that preventive measures for the safety of ship and personnel in connection with hazards related to radio equipment, including electrical radiation, chemical and mechanical hazards are adequate
· Communicate with helicopter services and maintain radio contact with all helicopters intending to land or depart from the vessel
· Maintain all radio accounts and obtain signatures for personal calls - forward summary to accounting department on a monthly basis after the Master’s signature has been obtained
· Prevent unauthorized use of any radio communication equipment.
· Lock the radio station, inform and hand over the keys to the watch-keeping officer at the bridge, when not in use.
· Maintain open communication channels during emergency response and respond according detailed instructions in the Companies Emergency Procedure Manual
· Inform the Master immediately in case of any malfunction or equipment failure
· Maintain and update radio signals publications and ship’s station list and raise requisitions for replacement whenever required
· Training crew and officers in the use and operation of all emergency and lifeboat radio communication equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS
· As per Company external qualification and training matrix
· Fluent in verbal and written English
· Computer literate
EXPERIENCE
· Three (3) years experience in vessel administration of which one (1) on board of a similar construction vessel
· Three (3) years experience as a radio operator of which one (1) year as a radio operator in a similar capacity on a similar construction barge or vessel.
