Задание 1. Порядок выполнения задания. Прочитайте диалог ведущего с консультантом по планированию времени. Выскажите свое мнение по поводу следующих высказываний из диалога. Используйте фразы и выражения из таблицы с фразами речевого этикета.

1 For a formal meeting you should arrive on time, for less formal meetings you can arrive a few minutes late. In other countries attitudes might be different.

2 You should tell your friend how long you’ll wait.

3 You should arrange appointments to discuss important matters later.

4 Try to do an unpleasant task first.

5 A hard –working person is not necessarily a productive person.

 

Expressing your opinions:

a) How to ask for an opinion:

what do you think of/about  
what's your opinion of British television?  
how do you find    

 

b) How to give an opinion:

I think there is too much violence on the screen today.
I believe    
In my opinion    

 

c) How to agree with an opinion:

I (quite) agree (with you). You are (quite) right. (Yes), he does (did, was, will, etc) (No), he doesn't (isn't, didn't, etc.) I think so, too.

d) How to disagree with an opinion:

I don t (quite) agree (with you). I disagree. I don't think so. No, I don't (didn't, wasn't, etc.). That's not my opinion. I hat's your opinion, not mine. I don’t think you're right.

Задание 2. Порядок выполнения задания. Прочитайте диалог ведущего с консультантом по планированию времени. Выпишите те советы консультанта, которые вы считаете наиболее важными при планировании времени.

Dialogue. (I - an interviewer; C – a time management consultant)

I: What exactly do time management consultant?

C: Well, it’s all about helping people to organize their work in an effective way; maximum efficiency, minimum stress.

I: And what sort of things help people to organize their time? I suppose punctuality is important?

С: Well, in international contexts, you do have to aware of cultural differences. For instance, in Britain big formal meetings usually start on time, but less formal meetings often begin a few minutes late. In Germany, on the other hand, people expect all meetings to begin on time.

I: If you arrange your own time very well, you still can’t control what other people do.

C: You can set limits. If you are meeting a friend, who always late, you can say “Well, I’m going to wait for 15 minutes. If they aren’t there by then, I’ll leave.”

Someone who constantly turns up late is putting a low value on your time. Let them know you’ve got other things to do.

I: What about interruptions?

C: If you are working on something important and someone drops in to see you, get your diary out. Politely tell them you’re busy and make an appointment for another time.

I: In what way can we organize our work?

C: It’s up to you. There are lots of techniques here. For example, imagine you’ve got two important things to do. One of them is pleasant and the other isn’t. Always try to do the unpleasant task first. That way, the pleasant task is a reward for finishing. If you do the other way round, you’ll tend to slow down the pleasant task because you don’t want to do the unpleasant one.

I: Finally, what for you is a hard-working person?

C: I’m not very interested in hard-working people. You can spend twelve hours a day at the office without doing very much. I’m interested in productive – and happy – people.

Порядок выполнения задания. Внимательно ознакомьтесь с предполагаемыми вопросами для собеседования на экзамене. Затем прочтите текст и отыщите ответы на приведенные выше вопросы. Проверьте себя, насколько хорошо вы ориентируетесь в теме, задайте подобные вопросы другим студентам в группе. Используйте эталон ответа как образец для построения своего собственного высказывания.

«Планирование времени». Предполагаемые вопросы для собеседования.

  2. Do you usually arrive early, late or on time?
  3. Do you know how many hours you need to study a week?
  4. Do you get ready for reports/projects in advance?
  5. Do you know how much time you spend chatting on the phone with your friends?

  8. Do you reward yourself when you achieve a goal?
  9. What qualities and habits do you think are necessary to be successful employer?
  10. What are your strengths and weaknesses?

I’m a student of St Petersburg’s college “The Imperial Alexandrovsky Lyceum”. There are many specialties at our college: Economic Departments of Accounting, Finance, Management, the Real Estate and Property Relations, Commerce and IT specialties. I study at the Real Estate and Property Relations specialty. I’m a sophomore student. Our students are trained to be specialists for different branches of our economy. The students also develop expertise in a particular technique or learn some practical skills.

People have always complained about lack of time. There’s a saying that time is money, but time is more valuable than money. If occasionally we spend too much money, we know that we can earn it again, it’s a renewable thing. Time, however, can never be restored. That’s why it’s more precious. There are special courses that help us deal with time properly. They teach how to set the priorities and how to allocate time for the items in your to-do list. For example, they advise you to write a list of everything you want to do during the week. Then you need to rewrite it, and to rearrange the items starting with the first priority. Allocate time from the top of the list to ensure that the most important things are done on time.

By using these tips, you can be organised and have plenty of time to lead a stress-free, well-rounded life.

I would like to say about what qualities and habits are necessary to be a successful entrepreneur. In my opinion, a successful entrepreneur should have much energy and enthusiasm. He or she should suggest a lot of new ideas for the business and be good at organising and delegating work; involve people, so their ideas are included too. They should find solutions to difficult problems, work under pressure and be good at listening to people. I’d say that my strengths are that I’m very motivated and work very hard. I’m good with people. My weakness is probably that I’m a bit disorganized and tend to work quickly being inaccurate sometime.

In my future job I hope I will be given a substantial pay rise and be promoted. I expect to be in charge of the whole department with several other employees, working hard and always changing things, so our work will never get boring.
