Sins and morals

Sin is a thing that writes itself across a mans face.

All crime is vulgar, just as vulgarity is crime.

Each of us has Heaven and Hell in him.

The only thing one never regrets are ones mistakes.

Nothing makes one so vain as being told that one is a sinner.

When we blame ourselves we feel that no one else has a right to blame us.

As for a spoiled life, no life is spoiled but one whose growth is arrested.

Men feeling a natural feeling of terror about passions and sensations that seem stronger than themselves.

We thing that we are generous, because we credit our neighbour with the possession of those virtues that are likely to be a benefit to us.

The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.

Resist the temptation, and your soul grows thick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself, with desire, for what its monstrous laws have made monstrous and unlawful.

The body sins once, and has done with its sin, for action is a mode of purification.

Humanity takes itself too seriously. It is the worlds original sin. If the caveman had known how to laugh. History would have been different.

Love

Love is a more wonderful thing than Art.

Love is an illusion.

To be in love is to surpass ones self.

When one is in love, one always begins by deceiving ones self, and one always ends by deceiving others. That is what the world calls a romance.

Being adored is a nuisance.

There is always something ridiculous about the emotions of people whom one has ceased to love.

When poverty creeps in at the door, love flies in through the window.

women

No woman is a genius. Women are a decorative sex. They never have anything to say but they say it charmingly.

Women have wonderfully primitive instincts.

Women defend themselves by attacking, just as they attack by sudden and strange surrenders.

Women are charmingly artificial, but they have no sense of art.

Women have no appreciation of good looks: at least good women have not.

Women create Love in men' natures

Women represent the triumph of matter over mind, just as men represent the triumph over morals.

Women try their luck; men risk theirs.

There are only two kinds of women, the plain and the coloured.

Ordinary women never appeal to ones imagination.

Ordinary women are always console themselves.

Men have emancipated the women, but they remain slaves looking for their masters, all the same.

Women love being dominated.

Women appreciate cruelty, downright cruelty, more than anything else.

How fond women are of doing dangerous things.

A women will flirt with anybody in the world as long as other people are looking on.

Women are not always allowed choice.

Never trust a woman who wears mauve, whatever her age may be, or a woman over thirty-five who is fond of pink ribbons. It always means that they have a history.

Always! Women are so fond of using it. They spoil every romance by trying to make it last forever.

Most American women behave as if they were beautiful. It is the secret of their charm.

American girls are as clever at concealing their parents as English women at concealing their past.

Life

Life has always poppies in her hands.

Life is not governed by will or intention. Life is a question of nerves, and fibres, and slowly built - up cells in which thought hides itself and passion has its dreams.

The aim of life is self development.

To be highly organized is the object of a man's existence.

Life is a great disappointment.

All ways end at the same point. The point is disillusion.

The real tragedy of life occur in such an inartistic manner that they hurt us by their crude violence, their absolute incoherence, their absurd want of meaning, their entire lack of style.

To test the Reality we must see it on the tight - rope. when the Verities become acrobats we can judge them.

The one charm of the past that it is the past.

We can have in life but one great experience at best, and the secret of life is to reproduce that experience as often as possible.

That is one of the great secrets of life to cure the soul by means of the senses, and the senses by means of the soul.

One should absorb the colour of life, but one should never remember its details. Details are always vulgar.

To become the spectator of one's life is to escape the suffering of life.

The only horrible thing in the world is ennui. That is the one sin for which there is no forgiveness.

The mutilation of the savage has its tragic survival in the self - denial that mars our life.

The world goes to the altar of it's own accord.

We are not sent into the world to air our moral prejudices.

Whatever was good for our fathers is not good enough for us married life and relations between men and women. Married life is merely a habit, a bad habit

The one charm of marriage is that it makes a life of deception absolutely necessary for both parties. The real drawback to marriage is that it makes one unselfish.

Men marry because they are tired; women because they are curious; both are disappointed.

When a woman marries again it is because she detested her first husband.

When a man marries again, it is because he adored his first wife.

Nowadays all the married men live like bachelors, and all the bachelors like married men.

The husband of a very beautiful woman belong to the criminal classes.

A man can be happy with any woman as long as he does not love her.

When a women finds out that her husband does not care about her, she either became dreadfully dowdy, or wears very smart bonnets that some other woman's husband has to pay for.

The only way a woman can ever reform a man is by boring him so completely that he loses all possible interest in life

Women love us for our defects. If we have enough of them, they will forgive us everything, even our intellects.
