Exercise 1.. Pronounce the following verbs. Check their pronunciation in
a dictionary if necessary. Learn them.

Exercise 2. Memorize the forms of the verb ‘to have’ (иметь, обладать)
in the Present Simple.
Exercise 3. Transform these sentences paying attention to different forms
of the verb ‘to have’. Translate them from English into Russian.
Model: I have a bag. — I’ve got a bag. — У меня есть сумочка.
1. I have an umbrella. 2. You have a map. 3. He has a car. 4. She has an
inn. 5. We have a shop. 6. You have a job. 7. They have an accountant.

Exercise 4. Make these sentences interrogative according to the model.
Model: You have got a nice house. — Have you got a nice house?

has got a desk-top computer. 4. She has got a smart electronic device. 5. We
have got a new email address. 6. They have got a big factory. 7. He has got
a cafe in the city. 8. They have got new furniture (мебель). 9. She has got
an expensive bag. 10. We have got an interesting job.
Exercise 5. Answer these questions in the positive and in the negative.
Model: Have you got a family? — Yes, I have. No, I haven’t.

got a high salary? 4. Has she got this sample? 5. Have we got a Russian flag?
6. Have they got new brands? 7. Have I got a telephone? 8. Has he got this

Exercise 6. Memorize the forms of the verb ‘to ask’ (спрашивать) in the
Present Simple tense.
Exercise 7. Translate the following sentences from English into Russian.
Remember that the Present Simple form denotes a regular
action. Use the adverbs of frequency.

Exercise 8. Make these sentences interrogative according to the model.

Exercise 9. Compare the following structures. Translate the pairs of
sentences from English into Russian.
Model: (like + Noun)
I like their company. — Мне нравится их компания.
(like + to-infinitive)
I like to come to their company. — Мне нравится приходить к ним в
компанию.
1. I like interesting people. / I like to meet interesting people. 2. You
want a new software programme. / You want to buy a new software
programme. 3. He likes expensive presents. / He likes to get expensive
presents. 4. She likes important guests. / She likes to receive important
guests. 5. They want cheap furniture. / They want to produce cheap
furniture. 6. He forgets this. /He forgets to say good bye.
Exercise 10. Translate the sentences with the construction I’d like to do.
Model: I’d like to sell my old house. — Мне бы хотелось продать свой
старый дом.
1. I’d like to come on Sunday. 2. You’d like to go to a meeting. 3. He’d
like to use this sample. 4. She’d like to find a new job. 5. We’d like to
remove his desk. 6. They’d like to make a report. 7. I’d like to sell my
