Nowadays computers are used in different spheres of life: education, industry, banking, entertainment, etc.

In education computers are used to access the Internet, write documents, complete exercises online and prepare presentations. A PC can also be used for enrolling online, searching the Web and doing research.

People use computers to design products and do calculations in industry. Computers can help to control industrial robots, assembly lines and keep records of stock (materials and equipment).

In entertainment computers are used to download music, play games and listen to the radio on the Web. They can also be used for burning CDs, taking and editing photos, making video clips, watching movies and listening to MP3s.

So, now we are living in the digital age, meaning that computers have become an essential part of our life.

Speak about peripherals giving examples of your own devices. (p.10)

Peripherals are often divided into 3 categories: input, output and storage devices.

Input devices include the keyboard, the mouse, scanners, cameras, etc. For example, I have a digital camera with 12.3 megapixels resolution, a multimedia keyboard, a laser mouse and a flat-bed scanner.

Output devices include the monitor and the printer. I have a 19’’ (inches) flat LCD screen and an inkjet printer.

There are 3 basic types of storage media: magnetic, optical and Flash memory. I have a hard drive with a capacity of 250 GB, a DVD Rewritable drive that supports all types of CDs and DVDs, and a USB flash drive for 8 GB, which I use to share texts, music and video clips with friends.

My ideal computer system has got a monitor, a Central Processing Unit, a keyboard, a mouse, speakers, a scanner, a printer, a joystick, a webcam, a microphone and a headphone. It’s got a lot of ports and card memory slots.

It’s very fast. It runs at the speed of 2.8 MHz (megahertz). The standard RAM memory is 16 GB and it’s expandable to 32 GB.

The hard disk can hold 8 TB (terabytes).

I need a large, flat 28’’ (inches) LCD screen because I want to play 3D games, edit photos, watch HD movies, etc.

As for the Internet, it should be Wi-Fi which uses wireless connectivity.

My digital camera is Nikon D90 Body.

I use it to take pictures and capture video.

I bought this particular model because it’s high-quality, innovative and has 12.3 megapixels resolution.

My favourite functions are autopicture rotation, digital red-eye reduction and cropping. It has also got a playback function, blurry picture alert, face and smile detection.

But I would improve optical zoom and resolution up to 25 megapixel.

My ideal printer is HP LaserJet Professional because it can print colour and black-and-white texts and graphics.

The resolution is 3600 dpi (dots per inch). This printer is fast, it can print A4 documents, high-quality photos, web pages, technical drawings, catalogues, brochures, logotypes, bar-codes and other publications.

HP uses a special ink powder called toner. The black-and-white and colour print speed is 21 pages per minute. It can print up to 40,000 pages a month.

HP LaserJet Professional connects to the computer via a USB port but it also has a Wi-Fi connection. It’s got a small screen to manipulate the output.
