12. 3. 1 Arrangement of approach and dispatching line shall comply with the following requirements:
1 Passenger train shall be guided to passenger station through lead track, wherein, the
passenger trains in major directions passing through the terminal without changing running
direction.
2 Freight train shall be guided to marshaling station through lead track, wherein, the main traffic flow direction shall have smoothly straight passage to pass through the terminal.
3 The receiving and departure tracks for passenger and freight trains from different directions shall be connected respectively to passenger station and marshalling station;but the departure tracks may be properly incorporated before respectively leading out of the

said stations based on the traffic capacity in its own section, capacity for all operations in station and project situation.
4 The related stations between leading lines and in the terminal shall meet the requirements on passage for operation.
12. 3. 2 Untwining for approach line can be of vertical untwining or level untwining based on traffic volume, traffic safety conditions, requirements on the operation of trains in different directions or in different categories and local conditions.
The untwining for approach line shall be designed by the technical conditions of horizontal section and longitudinal alinement in combination of urban planning, terrain conditions and geological conditions, etc..
For newly-built terminal and the terminal with less lead tracks and be of single track convergence, its approach line may be designed into level untwining within station. 12. 3. 3 Untwining for approach line should be designed as individual untwining for directional traffic based on traffic direction (Figure 12. 3. 3-1).

In the following cases,it may be designed by other untwining methods: 1 In the passenger and freight shared station where train interchange volume between lines is not large and single track railway is converged with double track railway or two single track railways are converged, the approach line may be designed by individual untwining for leading line (Figure 12. 3. 3-2),but it shall reserve the possibility for reconstruction of individual untwining for directional traffic.

2 When it is necessary to set special main track for certain trains in some sections or in approach line within the terminal, it may be designed by train category untwining (Figure 12. 3. 3-3). Where there are two or more lines designed by individual untwining of train category, the special main track should still be arranged by directional traffic,when it is led in some special main tracks for short-term project in form of single line and reserve some level crossing, such section of lead-in track may be arranged by leading line.
12.3.4 The layout of untwining line shall be determined according to traffic direction, train operating conditions, station arrangement and reduction of crossing in station, etc, through technical and economic comparisons. 12. 3. 5 The approach lines designed by vertical untwining shall reserve positions for new

line introduction and adding main track and connecting track and locate the stage projects of overpass bridges.
In the district divided into parts by approach lines,it shall set bridges and culverts needed by farmland irrigation and drainage or traffic.
12. 3. 6 The approach lines designed by level untwining in station shall meet following requirements:
1 Route shall be arranged in a flexible manner,where the route crossing can be scattered in the throat area at two ends.
2 There shall be proper track in station to be also used by trains as waiting track and refuge track.
3 The arrangement of throat area shall have proper parallel route.
4 There shall be stop and start conditions before home signal.
