9. 3. 1 When a passenger station is set with passenger car servicing depot and locomotive maintenance equipment for passenger transport, their mutual disposition shall meet the requirements on carrying capacity of station, reduce cross jamming in throat area and shorten the running distance of locomotives and passenger train stock, and it shall be determined in combination with terrain/geological conditions and urban planning and through comprehensive comparisons.

1 Passenger car servicing depot shall be located in longitudinal form on one side of main track at the end outside of throat area with less train to receive or dispatch or between two main tracks on double-track railway in a passenger station.

2 When there is less pair number of originating and terminating passenger trains and freight trains do not pass through a passenger station, or in order to fully utilize existing equipment,the passenger station and passenger car servicing depot can be arranged in a transverse manner when it has no more further development in long term.

3 The locomotive maintenance equipment for passenger transport and passenger car servicing depot should be arranged within a same quadrant; when there are more originating and terminating passenger trains to handle, in order to balance the carrying capacities in the throat areas at two ends of the station or in combination with other conditions, the locomotive maintenance equipment for passenger transport and passenger car servicing depot can be set at two ends of the passenger station.

9. 3. 2 The operating methods used in a passenger car servicing depot can be of fixed position or moving position. When it is to use fixed-position operations,the passenger car servicing depot shall be arranged in transverse manner (Figure 9. 3. 2-1). When it is to use moving-position operations, the passenger car servicing depot should be arranged in longitudinal manner (Figure 9. 3. 2-2).

9. 3. 3 When a passenger station and passenger car servicing depot are arranged in a longitudinal manner, the number of connecting tracks between the station and depot shall be determined according to the number of train stock to/from servicing point,times of locomotives to/from the
