6. 2. 1 Passenger station building shall be arranged on the side of main urban residential area,and the location of station building shall be in line with urban planning.

The location of the intermediate platform shall coordinate with the application of arrival and departure tracks for passenger trains to guarantee the safety and convenience for passengers to get on/off trains. Between intermediate platform and basic platform, there should be 3 tracks for single track railway, and 4 tracks for double-track railway; under difficult conditions in reconstructed district stations, it may retain existing platform location;for transverse type district station in the double-track railway only handling the shift changes of locomotive crew, it may have another arrival and departure track on the side of the station building.

6. 2. 2 The arrival and departure track for receiving and dispatching passenger trains in both lateral and longitudinal type district stations shall be capable to receive and dispatch freight trains. The arrival and departure track in lateral type district stations of single track railway shall adopt bi-directional train reception and departure route. The arrival and departure track in lateral type district stations of double-track railway may be designed into unidirectional routes in up and down directions respectively; the arrival and departure track nearby the passenger platform and the partial arrival and departure track nearby the shunt yard should be designed into double routes; or may all be designed into double routes if necessary.

6. 2. 3 District station should have one shunt yard. It may also set shunt yards in up and down directions respectively in a lateral type station with more bi-directional train sorting and less train flow exchange,if bases are sufficient.

6. 2. 4 The throat area in a district station shall guarantee the necessary carrying capacity, sorting capacity,safe operations and improvement of operating efficiency of the station,and it shall accord with following stipulations:

1 In the throat area of a district station adopting arm type locomotive routing system, its routes shall be no less than the number of parallel operations set forth in Table 6. 2. 4.

2 Some of the tracks in the shunt yard shall be connected to main track,in a station with more sorting operations, partial track in the receiving-departure yard shall have parallel operations of train receiving/dispatching and shunting/line-transfer.

3 The throat area should be arranged in a compact manner to reduce the number of turnouts on adverse routes and main tracks and achieve the shortest shunting trip.
