This version,as one of China's railway engineering construction standards in English series, which, in compliance with relevant procedures and regulations, is translated by Economic and Planning Research Institute of Ministry of Railways authorized by Construction Management Department of Ministry of Railways.

The English version has been translated from the Chinese Standard Code for Design of Rail-way Station and TerminaKGB 50091-2006)published by China Planning Press,whose copyright is owned by Ministry of Railways of the People's Republic of China. In the event of any discrepancies in the process of usage, Chinese version shall prevail.

Two standards for engineering construction including Code for Design of Railway Line (GB50090-2006)and Code for Design of Rail-way Station and Terminal (GB 50091-2006) are hereby promulgated according to the Measures on the Administration on Engi­neering Standard Publishing Work (Document Jian Biao [2008]No. 123). In event of any disputes on technical problems between the English version and Chinese version,the latter shall prevail.

The two standards for engineering construction (English version) are published by China Railway Publishing House.

Announcement of the Ministry of Construction on Publishing the National Standard of Code for Design of Railway Station and Terminal

Code for Design of Railway Station and Terminal has been approved as a national standard with a serial number of GB 50091-2006 and will be implemented on June 1,2006. In this code, Clauses 3. 1. 1, 3. 1. 3, 3. 1. 9, 3. 1. 18, 13. 2. 4, 13. 5. 2 and 13. 5. 7 are compulsory provisions and must be implemented strictly. Original Code for Design of Railway Station and Terminal GB 50091-99 shall be abolished simultaneously.

Authorized by Research Institute of Standards and Norms under Ministry of the Construction of the People's Republic of China, this code is published and distributed by China Planning Press.

Foreword

This Code is compiled by the Fourth Survey and Design Institute of China Railway together with concerned units according to the requirements given by the File of Ministry of Construction Circular on Printing and Distribution of Formulation and Modification of National Standards for Engineering Constructions in 2002—2003 (Document Jian Biaol_2003] No. 102) through modification made to original Code for Design of Railway Station and TerminaKGB 50091-99).

This Code mainly contains 13 chapters and includes General Provisions; Terms; Basic Regulations for Station Design; Passing Station and Overtaking Station; Intermediate Stations; District Station; Marshalling Station; Hump; Passenger Station, Passenger Transport Equipment and Passenger Car Servicing Depot; Freight Station, Freight Yard and Freight Transport Equipment;Industrial Station and Harbour Station; Terminal and Station Tracks.

This Code is set down to embody such principles as to "people orientation,serving transport,strengthening the fundamental and weakening the trivial, optimizing system and eyeing on the future". In accordance with general requirement for leap frog development of China railway and based on the science and technical progresses,reforms of transport management systems, and demands of productive redistribution such as "decision on reasonable standard,station and depot layout and scale"to make station and technical design safety and usability,technology advanced,and economy and rationality, full of competitive power and returns of investment, the compilation of this code has absorbed the successful experiences and special scientific research achievements obtained since the implementation of original code concerning railway design, construction and operation,collected opinions from concerned units and experts. The main complements, deletions and modifications include the follows:

1. The design running speed of passenger train is raised from 140km/h to 160km/h.

2. It has revised standard for design year of construction and renovation railway station and terminal.

3. It has added and revised the environment protection, realization speedy movement of wagon flow, concentrative freight organization, and set down to embody such principles and design philosophy as to "people orientation, reforms of transport management systems, productive redistribution, synthesis cost optimization and strengthen collectivity".

4. It has revised standard of the height for passenger high platform.

5. It has revised standard for some track center distance.

6. It has revised the regulations for station quantity of passing station and overtaking station of out-of-gauge freight trains.

7. It has revised the layout principles for the catch siding.

8. It has revised the layout principles for the road system of station.

9. It has revised the criteria for connection of line vertical section and gradient of station site,etc..

10. It has added the regulations for safety protection measures of higher design
speed section.

11. It has added some criteria for planes and profiles for approach line and station tracks.

12. It has added the principle for subgrade and drainage in station yards of Class I and Class П railway.

13. It has revised the layout principles for crossovers between two main tracks of overtaking station.

14. It has revised the layout principles for layout diagrams and crossovers between two main tracks of intermediate station.

15. It has revised the layout diagrams and calculating quantity parameters of arrival and departure tracks of district station.

16. It has revised the layout diagrams of passenger station.

17. It has revised the criteria for passenger transport equipment.

18. It has revised the regulations for the height distance between superface of ordinary freight platform edge and rail surface nearby railway.

The bold-faced articles in this code are compulsory ones to be strictly observed.

This Code is governed and explained as to compulsory articles by Ministry of Construction, while the concrete contents are explained by the Fourth Survey and Design Institute of China Railway. In the implementation of this code, all concerned units are required to summarize experiences and accumulate data in combination of engineering practice,if anything is discovered to be necessary for modification or supplementation,do not hesitate to send your opinions and related data to the Fourth Survey and Design Institute of China Railway (No. 745,Heping Road, Wuchang District, Wuhan, Hubei Province, 430063) while sending copy to Institute of Railway Engineering Technical Standards(No. 8,Yangfangdian Road,Beijing,100038)for reference in modification.
