4. 2. 2 There shall be two arrival and departure tracks in an overtaking station;it may set

one track for Class П railway under especially difficult conditions,but not in a continuous

manner.

4. 2. 3 One crossover shall be set between the two main tracks in the throat area at both

ends of overtaking station, if it is permissible, another crossover may be reserved at each

end. It may also set or reserve one crossover at each end for Figure 4. 2. 1 (b).

5. 1. 1 Intermediate station may adopt lateral type layout diagram, to be arranged according to Figure 5. 1. 1-1 or 5. 1. 1-2. It may adopt other rational layout diagrams in single track railway under especially difficult conditions.

5. 2 Quantity of Arrival and Departure Tracks and Configuration of Main Equipment

5. 2. 1 There shall be two arrival and departure tracks in an intermediate station,or three in case of more operations. The following intermediate stations may have more arrival and departure tracks than the above stipulation.

1 Station before a terminal, railway administration boundary station, starting/terminal
stations for banking locomotive, locomotive technical inspection station for continuous
falling gradient and transfer station for locomotive crew, in which the quantity of arrival
and departure tracks may be increased according to demands.

2 The intermediate station with tracks introduced in more than two directions or
branch track connections, in which the quantity of arrival and departure tracks may be
increased according to demands.

3 The intermediate station to pick-up and drop trains for marshalling operations, in which
the quantity of arrival and departure tracks may be determined according to demands.

4 The intermediate station to handle locomotive turning-back operations, in which
the quantity of arrival and departure tracks may be determined according to demands.

When a station has two or more above-mentioned operations simultaneously, its quantity of tracks shall be considered in a comprehensive manner, and should not to increase item by item.

5. 2.2 The intermediate station of single track railway should have an intermediate platform,and the intermediate station of double-track railway shall also have an intermediate platform; the intermediate platform shall be set outside the arrival and departure track adjacent to main track on the opposite side of the station building. It may reserve the place for intermediate platform in arrangement adjacent to main track in the reconstructed station under difficult conditions.

5.2.3 The intermediate station of double-track railway should have two crossovers between two main tracks at each end respectively in the throat area, in addition to one crossover set at each end respectively, the other two crossovers may be set or reserved according to the demands of shunting operations. When section design running speed is less than 140 km/h,it may adopt double crossovers in the reconstructed station under especially • 22 •


difficult conditions.

5. 2. 4 The freight yard position in an intermediate station shall be selected in considerations of main freight traffic source, freight flowing direction, environmental protection, urban planning and terrain/geological conditions,etc.

1 Freight yard should be set on the side in the direction for distribution of main
freights within quadrants No. I and Щ, or within quadrants No. П and IV when it is
necessary.

2 When it is necessary to handle large quantities of bulky and stack-loading freights, it may set a long freight track in the opposite of the station building.

3 When it is limited by local conditions so that the freight yard position is inconsistent with the direction of freight traffic source,there shall be a safe and convenient road built for the freight yard.

5. 2. 5 Arrangement conditions for lead track shall accord with following requirements:

1 Lead track shall be set in all the intermediate stations of double-track railway where the section design running speed is more than 120 km/h or train pairs in the parallel train diagram have reached 24 pairs and above,or the intermediate stations of single track railway with large quantities of shunting operations.

2 When an intermediate station has branch track connection which is in line with the conditions for shunting operations, branch track shall be utilized to conduct shunting operations. For the intermediate stations of single track railway without lead track, it may utilize main track to conduct shunting operations.

3 When it is to utilize main track or branch track to conduct shunting operations,the home signal shall be shifted outwards with a distance no more than 400 m. It shall accord with the requirements on shunting operations relating to plane, profile section and observing conditions;under difficult conditions,the curve radius shall be no less than 300 m and gradient no more than 6%o.

4 The effective length of the lead track should be no less than the half length of
freight trains running in this section; under especially difficult conditions or there are few
operations in this station,it shall be less than 200 m.

5. 2. 6 The intermediate station to handle locomotive turning-back operation and possess attached shunting locomotive shall be equipped with necessary locomotive operation equipment.
