7.4.1 The number of tracks in receiving yard, receiving-departure yard and departure yard within a marshalling station shall be determined according to the number of trains to handle, train nature, the centralized arrival and departure of trains, the process of station technical operation and other factors, which may be selected from Table 7. 4. 1 in design. Table 7. 4.1 Numbers of Tracks in Receiving Yard, Receiving-departure Yard and Departure Yard
Number of arrival and departure trains (train set) | Number of tracks | Number of arrival and departure trains (train set) | Number of tracks |
< 18 | 55 — 66 | 6-7 | |
19 — 30 | 3 — 4 | 67 — 78 | 7 — 8 |
31 — 42 | 4 — 5 | 79 — 90 | 8 — 9 |
43 — 54 | 5-6 | 91-102 | 9-10 |
Noterl The number of arrival and departure trains in the table refers to the total number of arrival and departure trains from all directions to the yard.
2 The range for number of tracks may be taken from the table corresponding to the number of trains.
3 In the receiving yard, receiving-departure yard and departure yard with certain quantity of transfer train, the number of tracks may be reduced according to the values listed in the table.
4 For the transit yard to handle the trains without or with detaching/attaching operations, the number of tracks may take the lower limit or upper limit value in the table (the arrival and departure of transit train counted as one set).
5 Locomotive running track may be set separately as required.
6 When selecting values from this table,if the number of receiving tracks connected in a yard is as many as 3 and above,it may add another track. The receiving yard before hump shall still consider that the number of line track each connection shall be no less than 2,if the number of trains to handle is smaller, the total number of tracks in the receiving yard may reduced accordingly.
7. 4. 2 The number and effective length of tracks in shunting yard of marshalling station shall be determined according to track applications, group numbers of train formation plan, traffic flow assigned to each group number per day and night, effective length of receiving and departure tracks and other factors.
The number and effective length of tracks in the shunting yard may be selected from Table 7. 4. 2. • 36 •
Table 7. 4. 2 Number and Effective Length of Tracks in Shunting Yard
No. | Track applications | Number of tracks | Effective length |
Used for accumulating and marshalling of solid train, through train and district trains | One track for each group number in marshalling schedule; when traffic flow exceeds 200 trains per day and night, another track may be added; in case of less wagon flow, two group numbers may share one track | Based on the effective length of arrival and departure track, some tracks may be a little shorter than above length
Used for accumulation of empty wagon | It shall be determined according to types of empty wagon and wagon flow per day and night with reference to stipulations in Item I, but the number of track for accumulation of empty wagon shall be no less than one in each station (or in each shunting yard in bidirectional marshalling station) | Based on the effective length of arrival and departure track, some tracks may be a little shorter than above length
Used as sorting and departure track for accumulation and marshalling of solid train, through train and district trains | It shall be determined according to group number of heavy wagon, types of empty wagon and wagon flow per day and night. There shall be two tracks when wagon flow is 150 '--'350 train sets, in case of more than 350 train sets, one more track may be added | Based on the effective length of arrival and departure track
Used for accumulation and marshalling of trains to be picked up or dropped | There shall be one track in each direction connected; if it is used to run key trains to pick up or drop,it may be increased according to wagon flow | There shall be one track in each direction connected and the length shall be the length of train plus 80 — 100 m
Used for centralization and marshalling of transfer trains (including the marshalling and departure track for accumulation and marshalling of transfer trains) | It shall be determined according to the wagon flow for each group number per day and night in formation plan respectively: One track for 250 wagons or less Two tracks for 250 wagons and above | The length shall be the length of train plus 80 — 100 m
Used for interchange of wagon (wagon to be resorting repeatedly) | There shall be no less than one track in each shunting yard of bidirectional marshalling station;for unidirectional marshalling station adopting double rolling-down» it shali be determined according to demands of layout diagram | It shall be determined according to wagon flow
Used for operating wagon of local station | It shall be determined according to unloading point (referring to freight yard, freight area and branch track, etc) and number of wagon to be unloaded | It shall be determined according to wagon flow
Used for caboose | One track (or none without caboose) | It may be shorter than the effective length of arrival and departure track
Used for reloading and transshipment wagon | One track | It may be shorter than the effective length of arrival and departure track |

Table7. 4. 2(continued)
No. | Track applications | Number of tracks | Effective length |
Used for wagon to be repaired | One track | It may be shorter than the effective length of arrival and departure track
Used for wagon loaded with out-of-gauge freight and wagon forbidden to pass through hump | One track | It may be shorter than the effective length of arrival and departure track
Used for wagon loaded with dangerous freight | One track | It may be shorter than the effective length of arrival and departure track |
Note-.l In this table, No. 1, 2, " effective length" column and "Based on the effective length of arrival and departure track" may be determined by the demands for accumulation and marshalling of a single group train.
2 The calculating points for the effective length of shunting track shall be: from end of first retarder location after entrance within shunting track (or the insulated node thereafter) to the fouling post at the rear of shunting track Cor the starting signal of marshalling and departure track).
3 When the effective length of arrival and departure track is 1 050 meters, the wagon flow in "Number of tracks" column by No. 1,3,5 items in the table shall be increased by 50 train sets.
4 For No. 8 —12 in the table, the equipment shall be arranged separately or in combined manner according to actual demands.
7. 4. 3 The number of lead tracks for train resorting and marshalling operations in marshalling station shall be determined according to work division, operation volume and operating method in shunting area. Transit yard may arrange the lead tracks for transit trains to pick-up and drop in group and for load-changing operation according to demands. The effective length of the lead tracks for train resorting and marshalling operations may be designed according to the effective length of arrival and departure track plus 30 meters. When it is limited by terrain conditions and there is smaller volume of operations, the effective length of lead track mainly for marshalling may be determined according to the operating method used, but it shall be no less than 2/3 of the effective length of the arrival and departure track.

2 The breaking-up capacity per day of medium capacity hump shall be 2 000~4 000 wagons and above. There shall be over 17—29 shunting tracks and there should be 2 group lead tracks for it;there shall be automatic control system for rolling route, and there should be automatic control system for locomotive humping speed and automatic or semi-automatic control system for cuts rolling speed.
3 The breaking-up capacity per day of small capacity hump shall be 2 000 wagons or less. There shall be 16 or less shunting tracks and 1 group lead tracks for it;there shall be automatic control system for rolling route, and should be semi-automatic control system for cab signal and cuts rolling speed, and it may also adopt simplified modern or manual speed regulation equipment.
8. 1. 2 Hump design shall determine the type and technological equipment according to short term breaking-up operation volume and reserve possibility for long term development according to freight volume growth and technological equipment conditions. In case of complicated transition projects at different stages, it shall prepare design scheme for transition at different stages.
The technical innovation of existing hump shall be carried out in combination with reconstruction of horizontal and longitudinal alinement of tracks based on speed regulation system used.
