12. 2. 10 The quantity,work division and arrangement of freight station within a terminal shall be determined by the principle of convenient freight transport and relative concentration, based on freight volume, freight category, operation nature, operation requirements, conditions of existing equipment, urban planning and local traffic and transportation conditions,etc. through comparison and selection.

In usual cases, the terminal located in medium and small-sized cities may have 1~2 freight yards; if the city distribution is scattered or terminal range is large, it may set several freight stations and freight yards as it is required,it may also set freight yards in the station nearby the residential convergence point, industrial area and satellite town around the terminal,if necessary.

12.2. 11 The freight yard should be designed to be of comprehensive one. The terminal located in large city may also set,as required,a specialized freight yard for handling mass freight,containers and dangerous goods,etc.

12. 2. 12 The freight yard should be set on circular line,detour track or connecting track, or set on the lines from marshalling station and intermediate station or in intermediate station.

The location of freight yard in a city may be determined by following principles:

1 Newly-built comprehensive freight yard should be set on the verge of urban district
or suburb.

2 The specialized freight yard for mass freight and service station for containers
should be set in suburb nearby the industrial area or processing plant to be served.

3 The freight yard providing service to materials transfer shall be set in a place in
suburb convenient for transfer.

4 The specialized freight yard for dangerous goods shall be set in suburb on the
leeward of predominant wind direction of the city.

F Locomotive Operation Equipment and Vehicle Equipment

12. 2. 13 The locomotive operation equipment in the terminal shall be determined according to passenger and freight locomotive routing on the tracks connected and the demands by the nature of locomotive technical operation,its location shall be nearby major station handling technical operations.

The overhaul and servicing equipment for passenger and freight locomotives may be arranged by following requirements:

1 The overhaul and servicing equipment for passenger and freight locomotives within
medium and small-sized terminals shall be set in one place. In the large-sized terminal with
heavier locomotive overhaul tasks,it may set overhaul equipment for passenger and freight
locomotives separately.

2 Marshalling station and the passenger station handling more pairs of passenger
trains shall have locomotive servicing equipment. In case of less pairs of passenger trains
and when conditions are permissible, it may set locomotive servicing equipment between
passenger station and marshalling station to be shared by passenger and freight trains with
special locomotive running tracks.

12. 2. 14 The arrangement of vehicle equipment in a terminal shall be determined according to the passenger and freight wagon owned, detaining wagons requirements, and other factors. Wagon depot shall be set in the place where in-terminal marshalling station,industrial station or harbour station is located to handle freight wagon sorting and marshalling operations and empty wagon concentration, which is convenient for detaining wagons. Passenger car depot shall be set in the passenger station to handle more original, destination passenger trains and attached passenger trains stock,which should be set together with passenger car servicing depot.
