The history of the Nizhny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs started in 1972 when a higher Law school wasfounded and first cadets were enrolled. Some time later the school developed into the institute and in the late 90ies it became the Academy. The Academy is situated in Ankudinovskoye Shosse in a quiet part of the city.
The Academy offers a comprehensive study of law and law enforcementand has both a full-time and a correspondence program.
The educational mission of the Academy is to prepare militia officers for the Ministry of Internal Affairs who will fight against crime in the sphere of economy. The course of study leads to a degree in law.
The Academy has a very highly qualified staff of teachers and lecturers, many of who have a wide practical experience.
To become a cadet of the Academy is not easy. Applicants have to undergo medical examinations, to be in good physical condition and have to pass entrance examinations.
Regular lectures, seminars, classes and training are offered to the students of the Academy. The graduates of the Academy work in various militia related services. The Academy is doing their best to make the cadets skilled professionals.
The main building contains lecture halls, classrooms, libraries, reading-halls, an assembly hall, faculty and administrative offices. The cadets are provided with housing, uniforms, meals and a stipend.
There is a shooting-range where cadets practise shooting. In a well-equipped gymnasium cadets practise wrestling and self-defense. There is a large assembly hall on the second floor where conferences and meetings take place.
I am a cadet of the Nizhny Novgorod Academy. Why do I study here? Our Academy is known to train officers for the Ministry of Internal Affairs who upon graduation receive a degree in law.
I’d like to work as a detective; my friend is going to work as an investigator. Our graduates are reported to work at the Departments for Economic Crimes all over the country. We all consider our work to be necessary and important while crime exists in this country.
It is not an easy task to solve a crime. We must know how to interview witnesses, interrogate criminals. So I have to work hard to become a skilled professional while being a cadet of the Academy.
