Our lives and everyday routines are constantly changing in the 21st century. The world is developing a single economy and culture as a result of improved technology and communications. The world is seen as a global village in which all countries depend on each other and seem to be closer together.

A common feature of the leading countries of the world today is tough competition. People in the race have often sacrificed family and community values and have become more and more individualistic in order to compete.

What is more, global trends have influenced people’s lifestyle greatly. The pace of life has increased recently. For example, in the average Russian family typically the father spends around 9-10 hours a day at work (being constantly under pressure) while the mother spends around 7-8 hours a day at work outside the home. Add to it another couple of hours for the mother who often does the majority of the daily housework and the care of the children.

The demands of this lifestyle have resulted in people becoming less concerned about maintaining their health. The average Russian man spends more hours watching television at home than he does exercising or socializing. For the children, being out of touch with their parents for most of the day means they also watch a lot of television and play the computer games. With the fast-paced lifestyle also comes fast food, which has negative influence on people’s health.

On the brighter side, our people today have the opportunity to travel around the globe and within the country. To avoid the stressful lifestyle many people are looking for a quieter place to live and work. These days some people can be found appreciating the lifestyle of various foreign countries rather than their own.

The trick to healthy living is making small changes nowadays: doing sport on a regular basis can improve your mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. As for me I go in for table tennis. It needs mobility, liveliness and much energy. It keeps a person in a good form. I have been playing tennis for five years, but the more I play the more I like it. I get a real joy taking part in competition or simply playing with my friends. Sometimes I go to tennis courts. In my opinion every man has to be fond of sport if he wants to keep fit and support good health.

The next important thing to have a happy and healthy lifestyle is taking care of your health. It is very important to consult doctors regularly, practice good hygiene and develop positive attitude to life. You can definitely cope with stress if you are keeping an active way of life. I strongly believe that to be healthy, people should get rid of their bad habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol. Everyone should remember that cigarettes, alcohol and drugs destroy both body and brains. Unfortunately, a lot of young people in our country get pleasure from the habit and find smoking irresistible when they are in a company. However, it is now impossible to deny the antisocial nature of the habit. The Russian government has decided recently to take the popular decision to ban smoking in most public places. I hope that passive smokers will not suffer from dangerous smoke any more.

Last but not least. The essential part of a healthy lifestyle is a balanced diet. Recently, more and more young people have been choosing to eat only vegetarian food because they think it is better for their heath. However, many nutritionists say that following a vegetarian diet exclusively is riot such a healthy option. The fact is that vegеtables contain less protein, which is important for building muscle and giving us energy. Also, some important nutrients are found in meat and fish. Therefore, sometimes vegetarians need to replace these by taking supplements, such as vitamin pins, which can be expensive. Although there are some drawbacks to become a vegetarian, I feel that on the whole it is not an unhealthy way to live. However, eating meat ensures that a person gets all the proteins, vitamins and minerals they need. Thus you should eat sensibly, getting all types of substances including fat, protein and carbohydrates, and try to avoid junk food.

To sum up, we should follow common rules to be healthy and lead a long life such as keeping active way of life, eating sensibly, studying reasonably and having a rest periodically.
