The University of New Orleans (UNO) offers the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) to Russian college students and other individuals who wish to prepare academically and linguistically for university studies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Among the most important aspects of our program is the academic curriculum. Students are expected to take full responsibility for their learning by being active participants in and out of classes. Our classes are small and intimate, and teachers are fully involved with each individual’s progress. Another important consideration is our total expenses. We offer very affordable tuition, room and board in comparison to most language programs in the United States.

Additionally, our English program offers:

• a language laboratory

• computer-assisted language learning

• field trips to introduce American culture and history

• qualified teachers with Master’s degrees

OnMarch 26 and 27, our academic coordinator, Ms. Lia Kushnir will be participating in the Education Fair in Moscow at the Russian Library of Foreign Literature. Also, onMarch 28 and 29 she will be at the Education Fair in St. Petersburg at the U.S. Educational Information Center. Ms. Kushnir has 25 years of experience working in ESL programs, and she speaks Russian fluently. She will be very glad to help you and your students with all questions about our program and the University of New Orleans.

The IELP is divided into 4 eight-week sessions during the fall and spring semester (August to May), and 2 five-week mini sessions during the summer (May to July). Although the IELP is an intensive English program (25 hours of academic instruction per week), students have the opportunity to learn about American culture and history throughout the session. The IELP organizes a welcome reception, field trips, coffee hours, sports days and a final certificate ceremony.

Students live both on and off campus. On campus students reside in the University Residence Hall. Off –campus housing includes nearby apartments and the IELP Host Family Program. The cost of room and board for the eight and five weeks sessions is affordable.

The IELP also custom-designs short-term ESL courses for special groups at very competitive rates. These specialty courses can include professional development in business, engineering and other fields. We also custom-design programs for groups.
