1. children - 1) progeny; offspring of parentage; unborn or recently born human being; at common law one who had not attained the age of fourteen years, though the meaning now varies in different statutes [BLD]; 2) as a technical term, in legal instruments, “child” was always construed to mean a legitimate, as opposed to an illegitimate, child [JDEL]; 3) for the purpose of the Children Act 1989, a person under the age of 18.
