Глагол + Инфинитив + Герундий
remember forget regret to be sorry действие следует за дей­ствием сказуемого во вре­мени: He rememberedto lock the door. Он вспомнил, что надо запереть дверь. I regret (am sorry)to tellyou the truth. Я сожалею, но я должен сказать Вам правду. действие или событие уже произошло, предшествует сказуемому во времени: He remembered closing the door. Он помнил, что запердверь. I regret (am sorry for)tellingyou a lie. Я сожалею, что сказал Вам неправду.
stop действие как цель: He stopped to talk. Он остановился, чтобыпоговорить. действие как прерванный процесс: He stopped talking. Он перестал говорить.
go on с инфинитивом означает «затем»: The minister went on to say Затем министр сказал …. с герундием означает «продолжать»: He went on talking. Он продолжал говорить.
use used to do– имел обыкновение (постоянно) что-то делать в прошлом, а сейчас – нет: We used to work together. Мы имели обыкновение работать вместе. to be used to doing, to get used to doing – иметь привычку, при­выкать: We got used to working together. Мы привыкли работать вместе.

 

try пытаться, стараться, при­лагать усилия: He triedto winthe race. Он очень старался побе­дить в гонках. попробовать сделать ч-л в качестве эксперимента: Try exercising, you may lose weight. Попробуй за­рядку, ты можешь скинуть вес таким образом.

1. Complete the sentences by using the “To-Infinitive” or “Gerund” of the verbs in brackets:

3. Stop (distort) facts and (turn) things upside down. We’ll never come to the agreement in this way.

4. Do stop ___ (talk); I am trying (finish) the letter.

5. They stopped ____ (have) a short rest and went on ___ (drive) again.

C

1. I don’t mind waiting. Please go on ___ (write) your report. Meanwhile I’ll look through the newspaper and go on ___ (have) a cup of coffee.

2. The students went on ____ (write) their tests for another hour.

3. After washing the car, he went on ___ (tidy up) the garage.

4. Suddenly she burst out with, “I’m tired of (make) soups for him. I can’t go on (waste) the best years of my life.”

1. When he was a child, he used to (go) swimming at least two times a week.
