Dear Guests,

Welcome to Slovenia!

We thought we would give you a quick guide around the house to make your stay that much easier.

On Arriving

Heating and Hot Water (not required in the summer)

Our neighbour will normally ensure that the heating and hot water is ready for when you arrive in the house. In the case that this is not already done, please put the thermostat to “Option 2”. This will ensure that the house is heated adequately. You will find the thermostat in the main lounge on the left hand wall as you go out to the kitchen. The round dials will not need to be changed. (Not needed in the summer!)

Entering and leaving the house

At all times, could you please not wear ski boots in the house, as this is likely to damage the flooring.

In Slovenia it is custom not to wear shoes in the house and we would ask you to keep this tradition!

When the house is not occupied, could you please ensure that all the doors and windows are locked.

Washing Machine/Tumble Dryer

If you wish to use the washing machine or tumble dryer then please feel free. The instructions for both of these machines are in plastic bags on top of each.

You will need to turn on the water tap (to the right of the washing machine). Please remember to turn this off when finished. You will also need to plug-in each appliance.

After each use of the dryer, please empty the water (bottom left) and remove the fluff (in the door).

Leave both doors of the machines open and unplugged when not in use.

Warning: When using both machines at the same time, the fuse (bottom of the stairs) may trip. You will just need to reset. You may find it better using only one machine at a time.

TV/DVD

These will be unplugged when you arrive. You will need to connect both plugs and the aerial. There are lots of channels – a channel guide will be in the drawer close to TV.

Skiing Equipment

Any skiing equipment can be dried in the boiler room each night. You may want to hang up your coats and sallopettes on coat hangers. You can put gloves and hats etc on top of the tanks in the boiler room.

Oven and Hob

The oven and hob are both electric.

Oven: the left hand dial needs to be turned so that it is on the “hand” symbol for the oven to work. The rest should be self-explanatory.

Hob: As it is a ceramic hob, it will stay hot for a long time after you have finished cooking. Please be aware of this and ensure that children are kept away.

Special cleaner for the hob is kept under the sink.

Dishwasher

Place a tablet in the tablet holder on the door of the dishwasher. Set the dishwasher to just after position 2 and press the O button on the left hand side to start.

There should be a few dishwasher tablets under the sink. Please replace what you use.

Rubbish/Bins

Please put all rubbish in the large green dustbin in the carport area. The bin gets collected early each Thursday so on Wednesday night could you please ensure that it is taken down the hill to the bottom of the drive (outside house number 4).

Hot Water

The boiler ensures the water is kept at a constant temperature. We have a large tank for hot water, however if you have two baths this will use up most of the hot water and you will need to wait approximately 30 minutes. Using the shower will help ensure there is enough hot water to go around.

Shops

Shops are typically open Monday to Saturday 9-5pm. Some larger grocery retailers are open on Sunday mornings. The local village shop (Zivila) in Bohinjska Bela has just about everything and they speak some English.

The major supermarket chain is Mercator which you will see everywhere. There are three of these in Bled as well as on in Bohinjska Bistrica.

If you need anything outside of these hours, then the petrol station on the way to Bohinjska Bistrica (right hand side about 1km outside the town) is open longer and on Sundays.

Snow Around the House and on the Drive

In case there is a lot of snow around and especially on the drive, there are snow shovels in the garage. In addition there are bags of salt in the garage. If there is snow on the drive, we recommend that you clear it and spread salt before you drive on it.

In some cases icicles will form at the edge of the roof around the house. These can be very heaving and dangerous so please take care.
