To P e r f o r m

Stand so your left side is fac-ing the person for whom you are doing the trick. The coin is lying on your palm-up left hand, while your right hand holds the pen by its lower end (photo 1).

Tell the person that you will make the coin vanish on the

count of “three.” Tap the coin with the pen twice (counting aloud “one,” “two”), each time raising your right hand very high so the pen is nearyour right ear. On “three,” your right hand swings up and actually sticks the pen behind your ear (photo 2; photo 3 is a close-up in which

you can see how Criss sticks the pen under the headgear he’s wear-ing; if you’re not wearing anything on your head, then just slip it be-hind your ear).

Don’t pause—immediately lower your right hand as if to tap the coin a third time (photo 4). Look at your right hand with surprise when you see that the pen has disappeared.

Tell the person that you will let him know the secret if he promises never to tell anyone else. He will say yes.

Turn around so your right side is now facing him. Show him that the pen is behind your ear (photo 5). At the same time, as your right hand is pointing to the pen and pulling it out from behind your ear, your left hand secretly drops the coin into your left pocket. Try not to move your left arm too much when you do this.

Your right hand takes the pen as you turn so your left side is again facing the person. The funny thing is, the person will not yet notice that the coin isn’t in your left hand.

Begin to tap the pen on the coin (photo 6). Act surprised that the coin has now disappeared! Apologize to the person for all the confusion and let him keep the pen as a souvenir.

Kicked!

Criss shuffles a deck of cards, then allows someone to select a card, remember it, and replace it in the center of the deck. It is appar-ently lost. Criss places the deck on the floor and gently kicks it with his foot. The deck magically cuts itself at the person’s card.
