You should be sitting at the dinner table, either at someone’s home or in a restaurant where you find dinner rolls on the table. A quarter is resting on the tips of your right fingers (photo 1) while your fingers are curled in a loose fist.

To P e r f o r m

Ask someone at the table to please pass you a roll. The per-son will hand you the basket of rolls—take it with your left hand and place it on the table. Look at the various rolls as if they’re somehow different from one an-other, then pick up any roll with your left hand.

Bring your right hand up to meet your left hand and put the roll onto your right fingers di-rectly over the coin (photo 2).

Act as if the roll is a little heavy and say, “That’s odd.” Break open the top of the roll with both thumbs, at the same time pushing the coin up into the roll from beneath with your fingers (photo 3). The people will see a coin inside the roll!

Let someone take the coin out.

Break the roll completely in half and place it on your bread plate. By breaking it in half, you destroy the evidence.

Advanced Version: If you have learned “How to Vanisha Coin,” you can combine it with “Coin from Roll” to produce an even better trick.

First, borrow a quarter from someone and have that person put his or her initials on it with a permanent marker, like a Sharpie.

Next, vanish the coin exactly as explained: afterward the coin will be resting inside your left hand, on your fingers (the left hand is closed in a loose fist). Ask another person to pick up one of the dinner rolls and hand it to you—take it with your right hand. Place the roll over the coin on your left fingers. Break the roll open as already explained, secretly pushing the coin up from beneath to produce the coin from inside.
