You are planning to propose to your girlfriend and you’d like to do it on Sunday. Today is Friday, so, there are two days left. Fortunately, everything is settled, except for the meal. You want to make wonderful dinner all by yourself in keeping with the best traditions of her favourite romantic melodramas. Since you have been dating for two years you know all her food preferences perfectly well. Unfortunately, the only thing you do not know is the recipe of her favourite potpie.
Call your future mother-in-law asking for help. Try not to reveal the secret of proposal to her (not to spoil the moment) and learn the recipe of the dish. Discuss all the ingredients you’ll need, find out more about the process of making it and the way it should be served. Then, write everything down. Next, go to the supermarket and buy everything you will need for the evening (products for the dish, candles, wine, etc.). Finally, prepare brilliant evening by creating romantic atmosphere, serving the dainty dish and putting a wedding ring on her finger to surprise your beloved. And get that cherished “Yes, I will.”
Why it is a task:
1. It has focus on meaning, not in form.
2. Learners are free to choose language means.
3. It is organized within a certain situation (The situation of proposal and making potpie).
4. There is an information gap (You do not know how to cook the dish and you need to find it out).
5. There is clearly stated, non-linguistic outcome (The recipe and the potpie).
