SITUATION In Singapore on business, Mr Tashikama of Japan Electronics decides to visit a new contact in Thailand before returning to head office. He calls SEA Airlines to make a reservation.  

DIALOGUE

Clerk SEA Airlines, Sarah speaking.
Mr Tashikama Yes, I'd like to make a reservation for a return flight to Bangkok.
Clerk Certainly, sir. When did you want to travel?
Mr Tashikama I'd like to leave next Thursday and return to Singapore the following Wednesday.
Clerk That's 7 April outward, returning 13 April. And will that be first class, business class or economy?
Mr Tashikama Economy.
Clerk Did you want to travel in the morning or in the afternoon?
Mr Tashikama I'd like to fly out in the morning and back in the afternoon, if possible.
Clerk Right... yes, that's no problem. That will be flight SE 006 departing Singapore at 09:30. And your return flight will be on SE 005 departing Bangkok at 15:15. May I have your name please?
Mr Tashikama Yes, my name is S. Tashikama. That's T-A-S-H-I-K-A-M-A.
Clerk And how will you be paying, Mr Tashikama?
Mr Tashikama I'd like to pay by credit card.
Clerk May I have your card number, please?
Mr Tashikama Yes, it's 4929 703 581 248.
Clerk Fine, thank you. Your reservation is confirmed.
Mr Tashikama Thank you very much for your help.
Clerk No problem. Have a good trip.

Exercise 2. Practise booking air travel. Work in pairs using the role cards given below.

ROLE CARD A MAKE CALL 1: Call SEA Airlines and book a one-way business class ticket from Bombay to Hong Kong for Friday 7 May, any time. Note the flight information you are given. TAKE CALL 2: You are a clerk with SEA Airlines. There are two daily flights from Karachi to Singapore: SE 290 leaves at 09:45 and SE 291 at 14:25. From Singapore to Karachi there are three daily flights: SE 292 at 11:10, SE 293 at 14:45 and SE 294 at 17:10. Note any bookings you take.

 

ROLE CARD B TAKE CALL 1: You are a clerk with SEA Airlines. On Fridays, there is only one flight from Bombay to Hong Kong: SE 342 leaves Bombay at 07:00. Note any bookings you take. MAKE CALL 2: Call SEA Airlines and book a first-class return flight from Karachi to Singapore leaving on Tuesday 11 May in the afternoon and returning the following Tuesday (18 May) in the morning. Note the flight information you are given.
