§ Location: Sippola Residential Special School is situated in the southeast part of Finland in the village of Sippola, which is part of Kouvola commune.

§ Short description: Sippola Residential Special School is one of the six state-owned residential special schools in Finland. It provides holistic rehabilitation, upbringing, education and care services for highly challenging children and young people. EVS volunteers will work in assistant positions in child and youth care, education and upbringing. Duties and work tasks vary according to volunteers’ skills, age and experience.

§ Volunteer’s requirements: EVS volunteers should be motivated to work with youth with difficult backgrounds and to be prepared for social tasks. Good social skills and experience on youth work or social work are of a great value. Age limit minimum 20 years.

§ Location: Kisälli-Harjulanmäki is situated in Vihti, a small town located some 50 kilometers away from the city of Helsinki.

§ Short description: Kisälli-Harjulanmäki has two main activities: it has a nursing home called “Harjulanmäki” for mentally disabled people and a workshop called “Kisälli” which provides art and work therapy for disabled people. The volunteers help disabled people in their daily activities at the Kisälli arts&crafts workshop and at the Harjulanmäki home. The work includes both artistic work and practical personal assisting (for example with eating and daily hygiene).

§ Volunteer’s requirements: Interest in creative arts&crafts work. Motivation to work with people with special needs.

§ Accommodation: The volunteers live in an apartment.

3) 2012-FI-24 EKOenergy / Finnish Association for Nature Conservation

§ Period: 1) 2.5.2015–1.5.2016 (12 months) and 2) 1.9.2015–31.8.2016 (12 months)

§ Location: The volunteers work at the main office of the Finnish Association for Nature conservation situated in the capital of Finland, Helsinki.

§ Short description: The volunteers work at the EKOenergy department of the Finnish Association for Nature conservation. The department coordinates the European ecolabel for electricity, EKOenergy, which is the first and only pan-European ecolabel for electricity. The label is owned by a network of 31 environmental NGOs willing to promote renewable electricity. According to the interests and skills of the volunteers the tasks may include, for instance, communicating with environmental organizations and electricity companies in various countries, following up the registration of power plants (in particular hydropower plants) into the EKOenergy system, communicating (via e.g. Facebook and Twitter) about renewable energy/electricity, updating databases, translating, making lay-outs for publications and setting up activities.

§ Volunteer’s requirements: One of the tasks of the volunteers is to phone and Skype with other organizations and companies. The voluntary workplace is therefore looking for social persons who like to interact with others (in particular via the phone, Skype and internet). They wish that the volunteers would be interested in environmental issues and could speak and write English well. The international focus of the voluntary workplace will be next year on France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Norway but they are open for applications from other countries, too.

§ Accommodation: The volunteers stay in a host family in the metropolitan area. Flexibility and motivation to live in a host family and to interact with the family members are needed.

4) Lehtimäki Special Folk High School

§ Period: 7.8.2015–6.6.2016 (10 months)

§ Location: Lehtimäki Special Folk High School is situated in Lehtimäki, a small village situated some 60 km away from the city of Seinäjoki.

§ Short description: The volunteers work in Lehtimäki special folk high school. The main task of the volunteers is to interact students with special needs during their lessons and leisure time, as well as to help them in their daily routines. The volunteers can also organize free-time activities for the mentally disabled students. Helping the kitchen staff and/or helping in horse stable work can also belong to the tasks of the volunteers.

§ Volunteer’s requirements: Motivation to work with people with special needs. Good social skills and open attitude. Willingness to live in a small village in the country side.

§ Accommodation: The volunteers live in an apartment.

5) English Playschool of Kangasala

§ Places available: 1

§ Period: 16.8.2015–15.6.2016 (10 months)

§ Location: The English playschool of Kangasala is situated in Kangasala, a small municipality situated some 20 km away from the city of Tampere.

§ Short description: The volunteer works in an English language playschool for children aged 3 to 6 years.

§ Volunteer’s requirements: Interest to work with young children and participate in the routine work of kindergarten and organize activities for the kids. Interest to learn Finnish language, since the children do not speak much English – they are only beginners in learning English as a foreign language.

§ Accommodation: The volunteer stays with a Finnish host family. Flexibility and motivation to live in a host family and to interact with the family members are needed.
