Annoy – (etymological meaning: to make hateful) to irritate or displease; to harass with repeated attacks (надокучати, набридати, сердити, дратувати, не подобатися / раздражать, сердить, злить; досаждать, донимать, допекать, надоедать), stresses loss of equanimity (спокойствие; самообладание) or patience as a result of being forced to endure something that one finds obnoxious (неприятный, несносный) or offensive or sometimes merely displeasing or distasteful; it seldom implies more than a temporary disturbance or display of irritation (to annoy greatly / much / intensely / really vs. slightly — сильно / трохи дратувати; to do smth. just / only to annoy smb. – щось зробити, тільки щоб розсердити когось; to annoy to death – надокучати до смерті; It annoyed me that…/What annoyed me was…)

Irk –(etymological meaning: to grow weary; probably related to Old Norse yrkja to work) (esp. with ‘it’) to irritate, vex, or annoy (дратувати, набридати, втомлювати / докучать, изнурять, надоедать, раздражать, утомлять), emphasizes difficulty in enduring and resulting weariness of spirit; it is most often used in reference to something that persists or recurs annoyingly (his friendship irks me=I find his friendship burdensome)
Bother – (etymological meaning: perhaps from Irish Gaelic bodhar deaf, vexed; compare Irish Gaelic buairim I vex) to annoy, worry or cause problems for (someone); to cause trouble or annoyance, pain, etc. (used in polite questions); to worry smb.; (in imperative sentences to express annoyance) (надокучати / надоедать, беспокоить, докучать, донимать), implies a usually mild interference with one’s comfort or peace of mind such as may arise on the one hand from something that calls for activity or effort or on the other from something that excites, puzzles, worries, concerns, or confuses (he would be too accessible and excessively bothered with details and complaints; to bother one’s head / brains – сушити (собі) голову, морочити (собі) голову, ламати (собі) голову, морочитися; bother one’s head about / over smb. / smth. – непокоїти(ся); хвилювати(ся), турбувати(ся) через…; забивати голову…; bother the life out of smb. – не давати і хвилини спокою, стояти над душею; bother it! – чёрт возьми!)
