Let’s talk about a healthy way of life. What influences a person’s health?

Everybody wants to live a long healthy life. Nowadays a healthy body becomes a fashion, an ideal of modern life. There are many ways to keep fit. For example, healthy food is a very important factor. Overeating causes many dangerous diseases. We shouldn’t snack and we should have breakfast. We should eat low-fat food, more fruit and vegetables, meat, milk products, which are rich in vitamins and proteins. We shouldn’t eat at night. If you keep to a diet, you must do it carefully, because sometimes diets may be harmful. Besides, to be healthy, a person must stop smoking and drinking much. Besides, nowadays there is a problem of taking drugs, especially among young people. It causes many diseases and leads to death. Everyone should remember that cigarettes, alcohol and drugs destroy both body and brain.

In our family we believe that preventing illness is better than trying to cure it after you get sick. My mother once told me there are three ways to prevent illness. They are eating well, avoiding stress and exercising regularly. In our family all of us are careful about our food and exercise a lot. We don’t smoke or drink alcohol. We all love swimming, playing volleyball and riding our bicycles.

And the best way to be healthy is to go in for sports. Sport is very important in our life. It is popular among young and old people. Many people do morning exercises and train themselves in different sections and take part in sport competitions. Sport helps to make people strong, brave and cheerful. We can go in for sports in winter and in summer, indoors and outdoors. To keep fit, it is very useful to walk a lot, to play active games, to spend a lot of time outdoors in the fresh air. Physical training is an important subject at school. Pupils have got PT lessons twice a week. And when school is over they may train at different sports clubs and sections in different kinds of sports.

Practically all kinds of sports are popular in our country but gymnastics, biathlon, hockey, football, wrestling and weight lifting enjoy the greatest popularity. Major victories have been won by our chess and tennis players, gymnasts, wrestlers and weight lifters. We can be proud of our sportsmen because they win fame not only for themselves but for our Republic.

An important problem for many young people is smoking. Millions of teenagers know it’s bad but they still do it or start smoking. Smoking causes many serious illnesses but knowing that can’t prevent teenagers from this terrible addiction. A cigarette contains 4000 different chemicals, some of them are poisonous. One out of 10 men in the world is a smoker and every 8 seconds someone dies of this habit. According to the statistics, smoking kills around 5 mln people a year.

More than 40 diseases are associated with smoking; it increases the risk of cancer, bronchitis and heart diseases. The immune system of an active smoker is so bad that they take more time to recover from any disease.

Vitamin C is destroyed by smoking. This is the reason why an active smoker usually looks older than their non-smoker friend. According to studies, an active smoker is likely to live14 years less than non-smokers.
