Past Continuous Tense. Продолженное прошедшее время.

Past Continuous используется для обозначения действия или действий, которые происходили в прошлом в определенный момент времени и (или) носили временный характер.

e.g. Yesterday from 10 to 12 o’clock

Yesterday at 10 o’clock I was sleeping

When he arrived

В образовании Past Continuous участвует глагол to be в своей прошедшей форме was/were и основный смысловой глагол с окончанием – ing.

Positive

I/he/she/it was sleeping.

They/we/you were sleeping.

Negative

I/he/she/it was not (wasn’t) sleeping.

They/we/you were not (weren’t) sleeping.

Question

Was I/he/she/it sleeping.

Were they/we/you sleeping.

C Past Continuous могут использоваться следующие выражения времени: while, when, as, all day/night/morning, etc.
