  The Past Indefinite Tense I was in the library yesterday. We weren’t in the swimming pool two days ago. They finished school last year. He began studying English when he was five. Did you see him yesterday? – Yes, I did. (No, I didn’t see him yesterday).  

I. Make the following sentences interrogative and negative.

1. I visited my sick friend the day before yesterday.

2. My elder brother was very tired after his classes.

3. We translated the text “My Family” at our last English lesson.

4. Yesterday I came to the university at 8 o’clock sharp.

5. It took me two hours to prepare for my classes.

6. We were in the canteen during our last break.

II. Open the brackets using the Past Indefinite Tense.

III. Read the text, find as many verbs in Past Indefinite as possible. Make up your own short story about your last working day.

When a school-girl I always envied those students who went to school five but not six days a week, as we did. So you may guess, I had the only day off – Sunday. On Sunday, I didn’t have to hurry anywhere, that’s why, I got up at nine or ten o’clock. I wasn’t an early riser. I did my bed, washed myself and went to the kitchen. After breakfast, if the weather was sunny, I usually didn’t stay indoors, I went to see my friends. We often played volley-ball or basket-ball in the yard and in winter if there was much snow out-of-doors we went skating and skiing in the woods. In the evening, when all the family were together, we had some tea with a cake or biscuits, we listened to my younger sister playing the piano, sometimes we sang folk songs.

IV. Translate into English.

1. Після занять ми планували піти на прогулянку до парку.

2. – Чому ти спізнилася на першу лекцію? – У мене не задзвонив будильник.

3. Вчора я не ходив у спортзал. Я читав та перекладав текст, виконував граматичні вправи.

4. Троє студентів були відсутні на останньому занятті.

5. Минулого разу ти обідала у кафе чи в студентській їдальні?

6. Позавчора Аня пішла спати о десятій вечора, бо була дуже втомлена.

7. – Хто підвозив тебе до університету два дні тому? – Це був мій старший брат.

8. Минулий вівторок був найважчим за увесь тиждень. Ми писали контрольну роботу з фізики.

9. – Де ти був на вихідних? – Я відвідував свою тітку, у якої був День народження.

10. У мене зайняло дві години, щоб підготувати домашнє завдання з хімії та англійської мови.
