I. Reading
One important American contribution to vacation fun is the theme park. Theme parks are much larger and more high-tech than the older amusement parks which were popular in 1960s-1980s. They have carnival games, rides, shows, displays, shops that sell souvenirs, and restaurants and food stands. They are developed around some educational or entertaining theme or idea, such as American or regional history, marine life, water sports, or African safaris. Theme parks appeal to people of all ages and are often a family's primary vacation destination. Their profit is about $7 billion a year!

In 1955 Walt Disney, the famous American cartoonist and filmmaker, opened the first theme park, Disneyland, near Los Angeles, California. Disneyland's great success inspired the building of parks elsewhere in the U.S. and Europe.

The largest is Walt Disney World, which covers 43 square miles near Orlando, Florida, and includes four lakes and about 100 restaurants.

II. Writing
Dear Alan,
Thank you very much for your letter. It was very interesting to learn about the work of your community club and its activities. Teenagers in Ukraine enjoy various indoor and outdoor activities. They like playing computer games and watching television as much as the British teens do. They also spend their time socializing with their peers and doing sport or other hobbies.
Voluntary clubs are not popular in our country, although teenagers often do community service works. They take care of elderly people especially in the rural parts of the country. They often participate in the ecological events and plant trees in the local parks and gardens.
Write me soon and tell me all your news.
Kind regards,
Natalia

III. Speaking
Everybody wants to be healthy, but today's world is full of roadblocks. For one thing, food is everywhere, almost all the time: from candy in school vending machines to popcorn at the cinemas. Fast-food restaurants are convenient and cheap. That's why it is one meal that runs into the next. We all need food, but we must keep to a balanced diet. People say, "We eat to live, but we do not live to eat." A balanced diet consists of all the things you need to be healthy and to have enough energy during the day.

To have healthy eating habits we just need to focus on three things: when, what, and how much. Nutritionists recommend eating three solid meals every day, and adding no more than two or three snacks to that total.

What we eat matters as much as when you eat. There are four main food groups to build your daily menu of: 1) milk and dairy foods (including cheese, yoghurt); 2) meat and fish (including eggs and chicken); 3) vegetables and fruit (including green vegetables, root vegetables, fruit juice); 4) potatoes and cereals (including bread, pasta, rice). A lot of meals are a combination of two or more of the main food groups.

Determining how much we need is also an important piece of the eating-well puzzle. Using smaller dishes is an easy way to prevent mindless overeating.

The food with which we cook plays a very big role in how we cook, as well as how good it all tastes at the end. We have to cook with the freshest possible ingredients. For instance, fresher vegetables tend to be sweeter and better tasting. Another important point is the fact that most ingredients have a seasonal period when they taste best, and much more healthier to eat. Cooking with seasonal ingredients will give the best results. We also have to respect the rules of the art of cooking and follow the recipes.

There are strict laws and regulations which control the standard of food. These deal with the production, distribution and sales, ensuring that the food is safe for us to buy and eat. It is our responsibility to choose, store, handle and prepare food in a safe and hygienic way to keep it safe for our family and friends to enjoy.
