I. Reading
The Interstate Highway System, is a system of freeways named after the U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower who supported it. The system is the largest highway system in the world, consisting of more than 75 thousand kilometers of freeways. The construction of the interstate highway system is an important part of American history.
Each Interstate highway is marked with a red, white, and blue shield with the word "Interstate", the name of the state, and the route number. Interstate highways are named with one or two-digit numbers. North-south highways are designated with odd numbers; east-west highways are named with even numbers.

The federal government primarily funds interstate highways. However, they are owned and operated by the individual states or toll authorities in the states.

II. Writing
Dear John,
I am very glad that you are coming to my city. I think that you'll enjoy your time here greatly.
You can stay in my flat as my brother will be on holidays at this time. We have all modern conveniences - hot and cold running water and a newly decorated bathroom. You'll have your own room. So, you'll feel yourself at home.
The first thing you should do is to visit the city centre. You'll see the beautiful cathedral and the main city square. There is an artisan market nearby to buy traditional Ukrainian souvenirs.
All the best,
Dmytro

III. Speaking
My favourite subjects at school are languages (especially foreign languages) and History. But English has always been my beloved subject. I'm sure that today it's almost impossible to do without foreign languages because of expanding economic and cultural relations, globalization and other processes that take place in the modern world. Besides, I think that one can't be a learned and well-educated person if he or she doesn't know at least one foreign language.

I think I'm lucky to have good English lessons at school. Miss Alison, my teacher, helps us learn English and experience a new culture. She is highly qualified. Our lessons are really exciting as we have a lot of communicative practice and play a lot of games. We always reinforce classroom learning with practical tasks while working in groups and doing different projects. After-classes activities take the form of a theatre performance, newspaper article, radio show, film recording or piece of art.

To practise my English I also work hard at home. I read English books in the original, try to translate some authentic newspaper stories from English into Ukrainian and vice versa. When I have some spare time, I learn 10 new words every day or translate songs of some English and American singers.

I study English with language learning books containing texts, grammar modules, vocabulary lists and practice exercises. These are probably old-fashioned but good enough to practise reading and writing skills, and to get essential grammar and vocabulary. I've also chosen a good English self-study software. These provide valuable listening and comprehensive practice. Sometimes I speak English with my friends after classes for fun and at the same time we practise our English. Choosing a combination of learning methods can often make it easier to fit language learning into my daily routine.

In my opinion, the best way to improve your language skills is to go to a country where native speakers of this language live. I haven't been to any English-speaking country yet but I hope to have this experience one day.

If I were to choose the profession of a teacher, I would be a teacher of English. But I don't think that I want teaching to be my career, although it's a very respected profession. In future I want to become a translator or an interpreter.
