Our University

I study at the Siberian State Technological University. The University is located in the centre of Krasnoyarsk city in Peace Avenue and Lenin and Markovsky streets. It was established in 1930.

Now it is one of the largest Siberian Universities. There are 11 faculties at the University: the Lumber Engineering Faculty, the Faculty of Automation and Information Technologies, the Forestry Faculty, the Faculty of Mechanics, the Faculty of Mechanical Processing of Wood, the Faculty of Economics, the Humane Faculty and others.

About 11 thousand students study here. Among them there are full-time students studying in the daytime and external students who get their teaching materials by mail. Most full-time students who study well get scholarship.

I entered the University last year. Now I am а second-year student. I study at the Faculty of Economics. It trains economists and managers for timber and woodworking enterprises. I study in the first shift. Our lectures usually begin at eight о ’clock in the morning and end at one or three о’ clock in the afternoon. The second shift lasts from half past one till six-thirty.

Attendance at our University is obligatory. All students must be very attentive at their lectures and classes to pass their examinations successfully. The students of our University take their exams and tests two times а year during their sessions in the autumn and spring terms. Some students get only good and excellent marks and seldom fail.

The academic year begins on the first of September and ends at the end of June. It is divided into two terms. During these terms, students have all kinds of laboratories at their disposal. The laboratories are provided with the most up-to- date equipment. The students make different experiments and carry out research work there.

The students study many different subjects on their future specialty. They are taught one of the following languages: English, German, or French. As for me, I study English. Nowadays it has become the world's most important language in the politics, science, trade and cultural relations. It is the principal language of international aid. English is associated with technological and economic development of the great manufacturing countries. It is the language of automation and computer technology, diplomacy and business. To know English today is necessary for every educated man, for every good specialist.

The students of our University can do any sport they like as we have modern equipment at our disposal.

After graduating from the University, I’ll work at one of the enterprises of Russia. I hope to become a good specialist.
