LAG Veturi and young people

 

Ylд-Savon Veturi is one of the 55 Local Action Groups in Finland that work on LEADER principle. Veturi’s area of operations consists of eight municipalities (Iisalmi, Keitele, Kiuruvesi, Lapinlahti, Maaninka, Pielavesi, Sonkajдrvi and Vieremд). There are 61 529 inhabitants in the area at the end of year 2011. Veturi’s area is considered as rural area including two towns, Iisalmi and Kiuruvesi. The target group of project JOY are young people aged 13–20 –years. In LAG Veturi area lives approximately 6 000 young people.

 


Young people and transnational co-operation

 

Transnational cooperation has been raised to be one of the main goals in LAG Veturi’s development strategy. Transnational cooperation is seen as a tool that can be used in all of the themes and actions. Veturi aims to find long term partners and build concrete cooperation. Actions are planned to increase the skills that are needed in transnational work. These are for example to encourage inhabitants to use foreign languages and increase their awareness of cultural differences.

 

It is natural for youth to take part in transnational actions. Possible ways to work could be international camps, courses and events. Entrepreneurship has been selected as main goal for this project.

 

3. TARGET GROUP OF THE PROJECT

Target group for project JOY is 13–20-year old young people and the main group is 14–17-year old young people.

 

4. OBJECTIVES

 

The main goal for Project JOY is to give young people the possibility to build and run their own small businesses with the help of an adult tutor.

6. ACTIVITIES AND TIMETABLE

 

 

6.1 Young people’s small businesses

 

One of the goals of project JOY is that young people will create and run their own small businesses during summer holiday. These small businesses can sell goods or provide services for others. Businesses can for example provide window washing for other etnrepreneurs, sell ice cream from a stand, sell baked goods, provide babysitting for families, farmwork etc.

 

International co operation and study visit

 

During the project young people will exchange experiences with a group from partner country within the theme of entrepreneurship. Once a month there will be held a skype meeting where finnish group and partner group exchange experiences on how their project develops. 10 young people from Finland travel to partner country during week 42 (October) for a study trip. The activities od the trip are planned by young people during weeks 34–39. The travel costs will be applied from Youth in Action program by LAG Veturi by 1st of October 2012.
