UNIT II.

DAILY PROGRAMME

Read the text with a dictionary – to make sure you understand it in detail.

To start with I can say that my working day begins very early. My alarm clock rings at 6.30 a. m. and wakes me up. The fact is I'm not a lark so it's rather difficult for me jump out of bed at once. Nevertheless I get up, open the window wide to let the fresh morning air in and begin to do my morning exercises to the music. When I'm pressed for time and have to hurry up I can do only the minimum amount of exercise. Nevertheless it makes me energetic and sets me into a cheerful working mood. In winter I am not so quick to leave my bed and I bury my head under the pillows pretending not to hear the alarm clock. But all the same, it is time to get up and I start getting ready for my study.

So I do my bed and go to the bathroom where I turn on the hot and cold taps. While the water is running into the bath I brush my teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Then I turn off the taps and take a shower or a bath, wash my face and hands. After that I dry myself on a towel and brush my hair with a comb. If I am not short of time I tidy up my room. I am through with it in ten minutes.

While I am having breakfast, I switch on the radio and listen to the news. Breakfast as doctors say must be the most substantial meal of the day, but I have neither time nor inclination to eat much, so I drink a cup of strong tea with milk or a slice of lemon or a cup of black coffee and eat some sandwiches with cheese and butter or some toasts with marmalade. Sometimes I eat some porridge, a boiled or fried egg and drink a glass of juice. I leave the house at ten minutes to eight, so I have to rush out of doors in order not to be late for classes.

Our classes begin at 8.30 so I have to take a bus or trolley bus to get to the University. It takes me half an hour to get to the University. I'm never late as I calculate the time. We usually have three or four periods a day. These are lectures and practical classes in different subjects: the Russian and the English languages, Literature, History, Philosophy etc. It is not surprising that I am very tired after classes, but I feel great satisfaction when I think of the future. Unfortunately I can't allow myself to have a long rest because I have some household duties. One of them is everyday shopping. Shopping in a supermarket takes me less time because I don't have to drop in at small shops such as a bakery, a butchery, a greengrocery and a fishmonger's. After fulfilling all my obligations I begin to do my homework. I have a lot of work not to lagbehind the group. I usually spend a lot of time in the reading-room preparing for the seminars. On my way home I often meet my fellow-students and we go together talking about our classes.

In the evening when I'm free with my homework I help my mother to cook supper and lay the table. The time of supper is the time to gather together and discuss all the matters and current events. My parents are really interesting people with rich experience and it is very important for me to listen to their wise and helping advice.

After supper I wash the dishes and then we can watch TV or read newspapers and books. I prefer to devote my spare time to reading. It helps me to broaden my mind. As I am young life is interesting for me. There are a lot of amusements in our city. I like to joy. Sometimes I have appointments with my friends. We visit different exhibitions, theatres, cinemas and clubs, but not very often. In summer I like to get out more, so in the evenings I go to the tennis court for a few sets of tennis or take out my bike for a run in the country.

To tell the truth, I don't like to go to bed early and I haven't regular time for it.
