Male and female friendship.

Everyone wants to have friends. We want to have people, who we can trust, who support us in difficult situations and can give real advice, if you need it. Usually we choose friends of the same sex as we are, but sometimes in a case of man and woman call each other friends, something different can appear… But let’s talk about types of friendship according to sex. (The main question of this part – what do you think friendship is?)

Male friendship. We all know examples of strong male friendship. Sometimes these friends are from our childhood, sometimes we meet them when we are adults and understand what we want from life. In both cases men trust each other and know for sure, that they will always help each other no matter what happens. Nevertheless, psychologists like to say, that men make friends only when it is profitable for them. There are two types of men’s friendship:

1) Friendship of interests. Men can talk about nearly all problems they have in their lives and are sure, that friend understands everything. Usually people in Russia call it “To cry on somebody’s shoulder”.

2) Friendship of profit. I’ll help you and you’ll someday help me. But that is all. No talks, no trust, just sense of debt. (Do you believe in male friendship? Why? Examples)

Female friendship. It is considered to say, that this type of friendship doesn’t exist. And what do psychologists say?

1) Women make friends to chat with. That is the same, as men’s friendship of interests. But usually these relations disappear when one of women falls in love and can trust all her thoughts to her husband. They just don’t need these friends!

2) Women are physically unable to have long relationships between each other without a sense of rivalry. Every time one of them wants to be better than another and conflicts usually happen exactly because of this. In many cases about men also… (Do you believe in female friendship? Why? Examples)

Friendship between man and woman. That is the most complicated type of relations. Usually these relations are started because a man and a woman like each other. Don’t love, but like. The main problem is that they refuse to understand this and say “Oh no, he/she is just a friend”. But then they find many things in common, they always have something to discuss, the same opinion about many questions… And at this point friendship grows into something different. Women will say “He is not more than a friend, I like him, but not as a man”. In most cases men can’t say the same. For men such kind of friendship is more difficult, usually there is no need to continue it, if they don’t really like the woman. But again let’s have a look at psychologists’ point of view:

1) This friendship can last long only in cases when a man and a woman are physically unattractive for each other. They only help sometimes, but not more.

2) Such relations usually lead to bed. And at this point it is difficult to say, that “we are just friends”.
