PART 1

CASEY APARTMENT MORNING

KEVIN: Rebecca, Dad wants to see you.

REBECCA: I’m on the phone.

REBECCA: I'll write to you from California... I'll see you when I come home. Goodbye, Aunt Molly. Take care.

REBECCA: Dad?... Kevin, where are you?

KEVIN: Rebecca!

REBECCA: What?

KEVIN: I'm in the kitchen.

REBECCA: What's going on?

KEVIN: Dad's downstairs. He wants to show you something.

REBECCA: Show me? Show me what?

KEVIN: You’ll see. Come on.

REBECCA: Kevin, I'm busy packing. What's this all about?

KEVIN: Ask Dad.

OUTSIDE THE CASEY APARTMENT

REBECCA: What's this?

DAD: It's your new car.

REBECCA: Dad! You're joking? I... I can't believe it! This is for me?

DAD: You need a car, don't you?... And you deserve it. It's a little present from Kevin and me.

DAD: Ugh! Not so tight! And here's the title to the car, and I paid for the car insurance.

REBECCA: I’m... just speechless.

DAD: You... speechless? Kevin, when's the last time your sister was speechless?

KEVIN: Not in a long time. So are we goin' for a ride?

DAD: What do ya think?

REBECCA: It’s perfect. My first car... I can t believe it!

KEVIN: So?

REBECCA: Get in!

BOSTON STREET

REBECCA: This car's great, Dad, but I bet you spent a fortune on it!

DAD: Not really. I got a good deal.

KEVIN: Try the horn.

DAD: It's got a good radio and tape deck... everything a musician needs on a long trip... Look at that view.

REBECCA: I’m gonna miss this place.

DAD: Sure y'are. Boston's been your home for twenty-eight years.

REBECCA: When I think about leaving, I get butterflies in my stomach.

DAD: You’11 be fine.

KEVIN: Yeah, you'11 be OK.

REBECCA: I hope so.

PART 2

REBECCA'S ROOM AFTERNOON

KEVIN: You’re talking to yourself.

REBECCA: It’s an old habit.

KEVIN: Boy, you have a lot of bags.

REBECCA: Maybe I shouldn't take all this stuff. Well, but what if I need it?

KEVIN: I hope we can fit all these suitcases into the car.

REBECCA: We have to!... Oh, I have some things to show you. Here's a list of what needs to be done on a regular basis... put out the garbage, recycle the glass and the cans, the newspapers and the cardboard... don't put anything...

KEVIN: Dad's on my case about all of that.

REBECCA: You need to help him keep the place clean, buy the groceries...

KEVIN: I'm starting to realize how nice it is to have a big sister around. It's gonna be kind of strange without you.

CASEY APARTMENT NIGHT

REBECCA: Hi.

DAD: Are you all packed?

REBECCA: Almost.

DAD: I want you to have this.

REBECCA: Dad... another present? What is it? Mom's necklace. Do you really want me to have this? It's beautiful. Thanks, Dad.

DAD: I'm sorry your mother isn't here to say all the right things... so I'll try, myself.

REBECCA: It's OK, Dad, you don't have to...

DAD: This is your home... If you ever need help... or change your mind... or anything... remember, we're here.

REBECCA: Thanks, Dad. Thanks for everything... I love you...

DAD: I'll miss ya, God knows. Well, you'd better get some sleep. You've got a big day tomorrow.

REBECCA: 'Night, Dad.

DAD: Night.

PART 3

OUTSIDE THE CASEY APARTMENT MORNING

DAD: For crying out loud. Your sister won't be able to see!

KEVIN: All right already! Are there any more bags?

DAD: No, this is it.

KEVIN: I'll put these in the trunk.

DAD: OK.

SANDY: Hey, guys, where is she?

KEVIN: Don’t worry. She’s still here.

REBECCA: Hey!

SANDY: Oh, I couldn't let you go without saying one last goodbye... and to give you this...

REBECCA: Ah, yes, the mystery present. Oh, Sandy, a diary! It's perfect!

SANDY: I want you to write down all the good stuff

REBECCA: What about the bad stuff?

SANDY: Oh, absolutely! I want it all in writing. And remember, since I gave you the diary, I get to read it.

REBECCA: Over my dead body!

KEVIN: Hey... I have something for you, too.

REBECCA: Kev...

KEVIN: See... a little something for good luck.

REBECCA: A four-leaf clover! I love it...

KEVIN: It’s a key ring for your new car.

REBECCA: Thanks, Kev... I guess it's that time. (She gives him a big hug.) KEVIN: I'll see you, Sis. Don't get lost.

REBECCA: I'11 try not to.

SANDY: I can t believe you're going!

REBECCA: I know...

REBECCA: Well...

DAD: Well, call us tonight... and tell us how you are.

REBECCA: I will.

DAD: And... have a good trip, Becky. Don't worry about us. Just be careful.

KEVIN: Your guitar.

REBECCA: Oh, put it in the back seat.

SANDY: Remember, don't pick up any hitchhikers... except for the cute ones! Bye...

KEVIN: Bye, Rebecca.

SANDY:... Be careful... Bye!

REBECCA: Well, this is it, Mom. I'm off to San Francisco. I'll try and do my very best. Keep an eye on Kevin and Dad for me,.. I miss you, Mom. Bye.
