REGULATIONS TO

BASTAU” (“ORIGINATION”) INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL OF STUDENT FILMS AND FILM SCHOOLS

October 22-26, 2014

“Bastau” International Film Festival of Student Films and Film Schools is held with the purpose of the international cooperation and cultural exchange among the young Eurasian filmmakers with the films from European and Asian countries as well as films from America represented equally.

Festival’s Motto: «Ethnic culture of nations is the binding thread of times».

The festival will be held in the city of Almaty, the largest southern city of the Republic of Kazakhstan – in the midst of the Silk Way. This city remains the unique cultural bridge between East and West.

The “Bastau” (“Origination”) Almaty ethno-cultural film festival reveals the individual in culture and vice versa. This formula unites filmmakers and researchers expressing the values of cultures in their uniqueness and variety by means of a film language.

Ethno-cultural cinematography does not escape acute problems but it withdraws from depressive negativism focusing its attention on aesthetics and semantics of the cultural space which is the cradle for the personal fates development. The films, promoting cultural and racial discrimination, insulting the human dignity and casting a bone between nations are not eligible for the film festival.

The official languages of the festival are Kazakh, Russian and English. The translations made from any other languages shall be presented with Russian or English subtitles.

“Bastau” International Film Festival of Student Films and Film Schools is held by the General Directorate of “Bastau” International Film Festival, Almaty City Administration, Zhurgenev Academy of Arts, “Tanaris Production Film company” LLP.

Informational Program – round table talk, master classes, press conferences.

The screening schedule is determined by the General Directorate of “Bastau” IFF.

SCREENING FORMAT

International short feature film competition
Only European, Asian and American short length feature films produced in 2013-2014 can participate in the competition of the “Bastau” IFF
Not less than 12 films participate in the competition of the “Bastau” IFF.
Films on DVDs are accepted to the competition of the “Bastau” IFF.
The copies of the films selected to the festival competition program should be received by the General Directorate of the “Bastau” IFF no later than October 15th, 2014.
Films, selected to the competition program must be provided with English or Russian subtitles.

International short documentary film competition
Only European, Asian and American short documentary films produced in 2013-2014 can participate in the competition of the “Bastau” IFF
Not less than 10 documentary films participate in the competition of the “Bastau” IFF.
Films on DVD are accepted to the competition of the “Bastau” IFF.
The copies of the films selected to the festival competition program should be received by the General Directorate of the “Bastau” IFF no later than October 15th, 2014.
Films, selected to the competition program must be provided with English or Russian subtitles.

International short animation film competition
Only European, Asian and American short animationfilms produced in 2013-2014 can participate in the competition of the “Bastau” IFF.
Not less than 8 animatedfilms participate in the competition of the “Bastau” IFF.
Animatedfilms on DVD are accepted to the competition of the “Bastau” IFF.
The copies of the animatedfilms selected to the festival competition program should be received by the General Directorate of the “Bastau” IFF no later than October 15th, 2014.
Animatedfilms, selected to the competition program must be provided with English or Russian subtitles.

Other programs
Other programs accept films in their original format: 35 mm print with optical soundtrack as well as films on DVDs, DCPs and Betacam tapes.
The copies of the films selected to other festival programs should be received by the General Directorate of the “Bastau” IFF no later than October 15th, 2014.

Responsibilities of the Parties
The film, selected to one of the festival’s programs shall not be withdrawn after the official confirmation of its participation.
Each film shall not be screened for more than three times during the festival.
All conditions and terms deem to be mandatory, otherwise, the General Directorate of the “Bastau” IFF reserves the right to exclude the film from festival program.
