Fostering Intercultural Dialogue Through Architectural Heritage and Visual Arts

Youth in Action Seminar, Rustavi, Georgia

July 11-18, 2013

     

SEMINAR SUMMARY

 

This Youth in Action seminar, developed jointly by Commpact Europe (UK) and Youth Association Droni (Georgia) aims at developing skills of youth workers and youth leaders in the field of intercultural dialogue and promoting cultural diversity. It will focus on tools such as discovering architectural heritage and use of visual arts (photography, video) to promote a better understanding of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue among young people in Europe. The programme will be led by professional photographers, video editors and youth workers with experience in developing youth entrepreneurship in the UK. The meeting will also encourage exchange of experience and know-how between youth workers from EU and Eastern Europe, notably in the field of multimedia, intercultural dialogue and youth work.

 

The seminar will be based on non-formal learning methods, including collecting evidence of Tbilisi’s cultural diversity through photography and video, intercultural learning workshops, team-building exercises and interactive workshops.

 

SEMINAR OBJECTIVES:

 

Ø To discover Georgia’s cultural diversity through architectural heritage

Ø To exchange best practice in intercultural dialogue

Ø To encourage to implement joint projects and activities;

Ø To develop competences and skills in using photography and video as tools in intercultural dialogue

Ø To promote a positive image of cultural diversity;

 

LANGUAGE

The language of the training course will be English. Participants should be proficient in English and able to communicate.

 

SEMINAR SCHEDULE

 

The seminar will start at lunchtime on July 11, 2013. The programme will end in the evening of July 17.

Daily activities will take place between 10 AM and 6 PM every day, with a few breaks including coffee/tea breaks and lunch.

 

THE VENUE

 

The project will be held at the recently opened International Scouting Centre Rustavi (www.iscr.ge) right outside of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.

Participants of the same sex will be accommodated in double-triple rooms with shared bathrooms.

Towels and bed linen will be provided, as well as 3 daily meals.

Wi-Fi connection is available in the Centre conference room.

! Note: Organisers will not provide any accommodation for additional stay in Georgia. If participants plan to arrive a few days earlier or depart a few days later they are kindly requested to inform us and we will be glad to offer assistance with booking a hotel.

TRAVELLING TO GEORGIA

 

Please see travel cost table at the end of this document for details of maximum travel cost reimbursement.

The cheapest flight connections to Tbilisi are via Riga (Air Baltic), Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), Kiev (Georgian and Ukrainian airlines) or Prague (Czech Airlines). You can also find connections through Munich or Frankfurt (Lufthansa) and Vienna (Austrian Airlines or Georgian AIRZENA).

Participants from the UK, Moldova, Lithuania and Romania are advised to start their journeys on July 10 as most flights from Europe arrive in Georgia at night/early morning (3-5 AM).

 

Participants from Ukraine and Turkey are advised to arrive to Tbilisi in the morning of July 11.

All participants can depart at any time on July 18, 2013.

! Please note: Although participants can plan their travel individually and arrive earlier/depart later, the organisers can only commit to reimburse and organise board and lodging during the mentioned training days. If you plan to travel outside the official project dates (July 10-18) you should contact us providing the reasons and buy ticket only if permission granted, otherwise you would not get reimbursement. Stopovers of more than 12 hours also need to be authorised
