To P e r f o r m. Bring out the deck of cards and shuffle it

Bring out the deck of cards and shuffle it. Then hand it to someone and ask that person to also shuffle the cards.

Say, “Would you please put your hand into my pocket and feel that

it’s empty?” Pull open the left side of your jacket and allow the personto stick his or her hand inside your jacket’s inner breast pocket. Then, ask the person to drop the deck into that pocket.

Ask, “Are you a card player? What’s your favorite four of a kind?”

Most people will, of course, name the aces because they are the highest cards in the deck and also the most easily recognized. If the person says, “Aces,” skip to the next paragraph. If, however, the person names an-other four of a kind (whatever it is), say, “Obviously you’re not a card player, because the best four of a kind is the four aces. You’ll always win with four aces. Let me show you what I can do with my sense of touch.”

Continue, “Using just the skill of my fingertips, let’s see if I can locate the four aces in the deck.” Insert your right hand inside yourjacket. Act as if you are inserting

your fingers into the jacket pocket containing the deck—but actually insert your thumb into the breast pocket of your shirt (photo 2 is an exposed view—actually your jacket is closed at this point so the

audience cannot see what’s hap- 2 pening). Pull any one of the aces

straight up until it completely clears the pocket (but is still hidden by your jacket), then bring it out into view. The card comes out back toward audience to build tension..

. slowly turn it around to reveal the first ace (photo 3).

Magically locate the remaining three Aces, one at a time, in exactly the same way, by pulling them out of your shirt pocket while the people watching think they’re coming out of the deck in your jacket pocket! At the end of the trick, bring the deck of cards out of your pocket (or let someone else remove it) and do another card trick.

Penny or Dime?

Criss displays a penny and a dime and places both on the table. He closes one hand into a fist and drops the penny inside. Then he lets someone else drop the dime inside. He asks another person to name either the penny or the dime. The penny is chosen and it vanishes.
