Ex. 1 Give English equivalents (in writing): течение, временами дожди, местами дожди, плыть по небу, великолепная радуга, невыносимо жарко, освежающий бриз, душный (о погоде, воздухе, помещении), отдаленные раскаты грома, сильный удар грома, гроза, ослепительные вспышки молнии, лить как из ведра, попасть под дождь, найти укрытие, промокнуть до нитки, период хорошей погоды, желтеть, колючие ветры, холодный (промозглый), сильно морозить, замерзать (покрываться льдом), иней, сосульки, устанавливаться, превращаться в слякоть, обрызгать грязью, ворчать по поводу погоды, жаркая волна, раскрывать зонт, постепенно, во всей своей красе, загорать, град, приносить облегчение, освежать воздух, прибивать пыль, слой льда, наполняться новой жизнью, покрываться листвой, весенняя (зимняя, летняя) погода, в цвету, кружево полураспустившейся листвы, разразиться, снежинки, скользкий, моросить.
Ex. 2 Give opposites (in writing): nature dies, slowly, a period of rain, dry climate, the temperature falls, in the sun, the sky is cloudless, sunrise (the sun rises), above zero, severe, to freeze (frost), the sun is going out.
Ex. 3 Give synonyms (in writing): nature returns to life, to float across the sky, to glitter, to flower.
Ex. 4 Find the sentences in the texts, read them and translate into Russian.

Ex. 5 What do the following expressions mean? In what situations can you use them?

- It’s coming on to pour.
- It’s clearing up.
Ex. 6 Draw verbal pictures of some season or weather condition and let your group-mates guess what it is. Use vocabulary from all the texts. Start with “This is the time (period, spell) when … (in writing)
Ex. 7 Answer the questions.
- What is your favourite season? What do you like in it?
- Why do people call spring the season of hope and happiness?
- What is the best time for visitors to come to our country?
- What national stereotypes referring to the weather do you know?
- Does the present day weather fits in with these stereotypes?
- Can you say that spring-like weather has set in at last?
- How do you ask about the weather?
Ex. 8 Make up sentences to express some opinion about the weather condition. Use as many nouns and adjectives as possible (in writing):
