1 At this moment there was a noise outside the front door (в этот момент раздался шум снаружи передней двери; front door – парадный вход), a sort of scrabbling noise (какой-то скребущий шум), as if somebody were trying to paw his way through the woodwork (как будто кто-то пытался проторить лапами себе путь сквозь дерево; woodwork ['wudwWk] сущ. – деревянные изделия; деревянные части строения / двери, оконные рамы и т.п. /). Then a sort of thud (затем какой-то глухой стук; thud [TAd] сущ. – глухой звук, стук / от падения тяжелого тела /).

 

2 "Better go and see what that is, Jeeves (лучше пойди и посмотри, что это такое, Дживс; досл. «…что то есть, Дживс»)."

 

3 "Very good, sir (очень хорошо, сэр)."

 

4 He went out and came back again (он вышел и вернулся вновь).

 

5 "If you would not mind stepping this way, sir (если Вы не против пройти сюда, сэр; to step – ступать, шагать, делать шаг; идти), I think we might be able to carry him in (я думаю, мы можем быть в состоянии внести его вовнутрь; to carry ['kxrI])."

 

6 "Carry him in (внести его вовнутрь)?"

 

7 "His lordship is lying on the mat, sir (его милость лежит на коврике, сэр; mat [mxt] сущ. – половик, коврик / у двери, для вытирания ног; тж. mat-door /; рогожа; циновка)."

 

8 I went to the front door (я подошёл к передней двери). The man was right (этот человек был прав). There was Motty huddled up outside on the floor (там был Мотти, свернувшийся калачиком снаружи на полу; to huddle [hAdl] up – съеживаться, свертываться калачиком). He was moaning a bit (он стонал немного; to moan [mqun]).
