In 2017, EXPO in Astana will be held on the topic “The Energy of the Future”. My aim is to investigate how the symposium can help Kazakhstan’s economy to develop and answer the research question. The question is important, because people of Kazakhstan and all around the world are interested in renewable, clean, free, indigenous and modular sources of energy. Also, Kazakhstan particularly is interested in the development of the economy in the country, because, as the economy grows up, people have better life conditions, social insurance and safety of citizens. As a part of society, I am interested in this topic. I have a strong desire to develop Kazakhstan and I think that EXPO-2017 will contribute to Kazakhstan’s economic development from different sides. As a result, the infrastructure and service will improve, the tourism will increase and the main advantage is that Kazakhstan will approach, make a big step to the concept of “Green Economy”.
EXPO-2017 will be held in 2017 from June 10 to September 10. According to “Bolashak-Baspa”, (Azimkhan A., Manabayeva, 2013), the main objective of the symposium is to draw global attention on the problem of scarcity of energy and the threat of technological disasters and environmental crisis. This is a challenge for the whole humanity which should be overcome. We know that demand for oil is declining and the price is increasing gradually, many countries will convert to renewable sources of energy. The Expo will unite scientists and serve as a platform for exchanging knowledge and practice from all over the world.
If we talk about how EXPO will contribute to Kazakhstan’s economic development and its advantages and positive outcomes, they are huge. Firstly, the infrastructure and service will improve. Undoubtedly, approximately 5 million tourists need to have apartments, medical help, entertainment, public service and so on. The foreigners will also need taxi service, parking, café, restaurants and entertainment. The government will make all efforts to make work and play of the foreigners as comfortable as possible. In general, this will dead to big changes in infrastructure and service, particularly, the marketability of trade will increase and this will have good consequences. As the requirements become more stringent, the quality will actually grow and this will also cause a marked improvement in this sphere. Consequently, the level of service and quality will grow. I think this will have a positive effect on the economy of Kazakhstan, because the industry of service had been one of the key factors in market relations.
Secondly, by coming of tourists, the tourism of Kazakhstan will develop. In 2017 from June to September, about 5 million people, nearly 50 000 people per day (Michael. J., 2013) will visit Kazakhstan. This is about one third of the whole population of Kazakhstan. According to the head of the department of regional industry and the tourism development committee under the MINT RK Tugelbay B. (2013), “tourism will increase by 2-3 times in the next 5 years”. It means that there will be extremely big growth of tourism in Kazakhstan. In my opinion, the growth of tourism will directly effect on the economy of Kazakhstan and changes will be into good side. I assume that the vast majority of unemployed citizens will have a good opportunity to find jobs in touristic companies and in sphere of service and maintenance. For example, a jobless man can find himself as a taxi or bus driver, or Astana guide. I think that this will decrease unemployment. This, of course, will contribute to Kazakhstan’s economic development, because working-age population will increase by falling of unemployment and give the opportunity for businessmen to open new and qualitative enterprises and show the whole world the astonishing nature of Kazakhstan.
Thirdly, Kazakhstan will make one courage step towards the sustainable development. According to Brundtland Report (General assembly, 1987): "Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. In other words, it is harmonic development and it is a completely discrepant approach to traditional one. The main objective of sustainable development is to balance our economic, environmental and social needs. In addition, the term “green economy” is the direction of sustainable development. According to Nazarbayev University director Kanat B., “ EXPO will give an impetus to the development of a green economy in Kazakhstan ”. In other words, EXPO will serve as a platform for development of the technology in Kazakhstan that produces energy from renewable resources such as wind power, sun energy, geothermal energy, etc. In EXPO scientists from all over the world will share their ideas, experience. This is very important, because Kazakhstan, together with the scientists from the worldwide will find out new technology for “Energy of the Future”. That will give a big chance for our country to find new solutions of realization of the “green economy”. Renewable sources of energy are clean, free, create jobs, improve rural electrification and reduce poverty, provide energy security and prevent conflicts over natural resources. These are the main characteristics and advantages of “Energy of the Future”. In EXPO-2017 this problems will be solved and I think that is why EXPO is important for Kazakhstan.
To conclude, I would like to say that EXPO can contribute to Kazakhstan’s economic development from different sides, especially, the infrastructure and service will improve, the tourism will develop and Kazakhstan will make a step to sustainability, which is one of the main factors of economic development. EXPO-2017 is going to be very perspective and attractive project of world class and that is why Kazakhstan is going to hold EXPO-2017.
