Great spot for coffee or lunch, especially in the summer when the outdoor terrace gets crowded. There’s a vaguely Middle Eastern theme to the food: falafels and decent hummus, but the sandwiches on ciabatta and top-class chips are decidedly Western in flavour.

Packed at weekends, Element Fresh has a mix of healthy and hefty salads, sandwiches and MSG-free mains that’s made it one of the most popular spots in Sanlitun. There’s a large outside terrace and wi-fi too.

There aren’t too many North Korean restaurants in the world and a night here is made special by the waitresses who take it in turns to break out into Korean folk and pop songs. The picture menu is heavy on Korean hotpot and, of course, noodles. The restaurant is on the corner of Xindong Lu.
