3. Ask the questions “Is this sentence connected to the other sentences in the paragraph?” and “Does this sentence fit logically into the paragraph?”
Section VI Conclusion
The conclusion sums up the essay and reminds the reader what the writer wants to say. New information should not be introduced in this section. The main points covered in the essay are reviewed – but not discussed – in this section. A “future sentence” is the last sentence in the essay and keeps the reader thinking about what might come next.
A recommended format is to simply begin with “In conclusion,...”
Notes:
Model Essay
Write an essay about Kazakhstan. Discuss the geography, culture, and economy.
Land of the Kazakhs
Most people have never heard about the sleeping giant in central Asia called Kazakhstan. Located in a strategic part of the world and possessing a unique culture and dynamic economy, Kazakhstan is on the brink of great prosperity. A brief discussion of these points demonstrates why.
Kazakhstan is situated in the central part of the Eurasian continent in the middle of the ancient Old Silk Road. The ninth largest country in the world geographically, Kazakhstan borders superpowers Russia and China. The south is famous for Almaty, a major economic hub, and snow-capped mountains. In contrast, the north centers around Astana, the new capital, and is located in the vast, open steppes. Accordingly, the unique geographical position allows Kazakhstan to integrate successfully into the global economy.
Kazakhstan is a multicultural country with sixteen million people. While ethnic Kazakhs and Russians predominate, representatives from over one hundred different nationalities comprise the population. A multitude of traditions and holidays are observed. In addition, the world’s major religions of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, peacefully co-exist in harmony. Against this backdrop of political and cultural stability, Kazakhstan’s transition to a free-market economy has been smooth.
Kazakhstan is a developing industrial nation. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Kazakhstan has gradually embraced capitalism and systematically improved the lives of everyday citizens. Furthermore, foreign companies have invested heavily in Kazakhstan due to the large oil and natural gas deposits waiting to be tapped. The influx of capital from wealthy countries fuels the economy and as a result, Kazakhstan is well positioned to become a member of the prestigious World Trade Organization (WTO). Assisting this drive is Kazakhstan’s favorable geographic position.
In conclusion, Kazakhstan is an emerging country. Having inherited a rich culture and favorable location, the country is quickly progressing towards the goal of becoming an economic powerhouse. Over the next several decades, the rest of the world will become familiar with Kazakhstan. The future looks promising for the giant soon to awake.
