Foolish persons do not know how risky life is here if one does not follow the instructions of Kåñëa. The Kåñëa consciousness movement, therefore, has been started so that by practicing Kåñëa consciousness one can avoid the risky life of this material existence. There is no question of accepting or not accepting Kåñëa consciousness. It is not optional; it is compulsory. If we do not take to Kåñëa consciousness, our life is very risky. Everything is explained in Bhagavad-gétä. Therefore, to learn how to become free from the miserable condition of material existence, Bhagavad-gétä As It Is is the preliminary study. Then, if one understands Bhagavad-gétä, one can proceed to Çrémad-Bhägavatam, and if one advances further, one may study Caitanya-caritämåta. We are therefore presenting these invaluable books to the whole world so that people may study them and be happy, being delivered from miserable conditional life.

27. Why Lord Krsna came as Lord Caitanya:
Yes. So he is Krsna Himself, and He is teaching how to love Krsna. Therfore His process is most authorized. Just like you are the expert in this establishment. If somebody is doing something, if you personally teach him, "Do like this," that is very authorized. So God consciousness, God Himself is teaching. Just like in Bhagavad-gita, Krsna is God. He is speaking about Himself. And at last He says, "Just surrender unto Me. I take charge of you." But people misunderstand. So Lord Caitanya--Krsna again came as Lord Caitanya to teach people how to surrender. And because we are following the footsteps of Lord Caitanya, the method is so sublime that even foreigners who never knew Krsna, they are surrendering. The method is so potent. So that was my purpose. We don't say that "This religion is better than this religion," or, "My process is better." We want to see by the result. In the Sanskrit there is a word, phalena pariciyate. A thing is judged by the result.

28. Bhagavad Gita and the Bible:
There is similarity, but one thing is, just like mathematics taught in the lower class. Two plus two equal to four is equally applicable in higher mathematics, two plus two equal to four. In higher mathematics it does not become two plus two equal to five. Similarly, the teachings of Bible or teachings of Bhagavad-gita are the same, the same "two plus two."

But first of all you take your Bible. You are ordered not to kill. Why you are killing? Then go to Bhagavad-gita. When there is aggression you have the right to kill but not unnecessarily you can kill. Suppose a tiger attacks you; you can kill. But you cannot go in the forest and kill the tiger. That is sinful.

That's it. Otherwise either you follow Bhagavad-gita or Bible as they are, then you become gradually perfect. The difficulty is they do not follow. And still they're claiming "I am Christian." "I am Hindu." "I am this." "I am that." Rubber stamp. No qualification but rubber stamp. This is the defect.

So it is the duty of the Christians. But they are also... What can I say? They are passing resolution according to the time, changing the instruction of Bible. How they can be fixed-up? Our standard is Bhagavad-gita As It Is. We accept guru as representative of Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If he speaks what Krsna has spoken, then he is guru. Similar in Christianity, if they actually take care that whether one is speaking according to the Ten Commandments, if he is living according to the rules and regulations of the Ten Commandments, then he is guru. Why people accept them? Because they are ignorant, they do not know who is real and who is fake. But the standard is there. Take for example in the Bible, it is said "Thou shalt not kill." But everyone is killing. Killing is the business of the Christians. They are maintaining big, big slaughterhouse. We are maintaining cows here, and there are others, they are maintaining cows for slaughtering. Why? In these Commandments it is clearly said that "Thou shalt not kill." How they will detect? If they are violating themselves the laws, how they will punish the lawbreaker? "Physician, heal thyself." The physician himself is diseased, and he's going to treat other patients.

Then he has to accept something else. He has to accept something. He may accept Bible. They may not accept Bhagavad-gita. They must accept Bible. But you have to, then you have to lead your life according to the version of the Bible. The version of the Bible is that "Thou shalt not kill." You are killing. Therefore you are not, not followers of Bible. You are rascal.

If, on this basis, there is a conference, that will be profitable, that "If you accept Bhagavad-gita as authority or one of the authorities, so you cannot misinterpret the statement in the Bhagavad-gita." But the Westerners, they are very expert in misinterpreting even their own Bible. We say that if you interpret any sastra, either Bible or Bhagavad-gita, then it is no more sastra. It is your play toy. By so-called your rascal vote, without any reason and rhythm and rhyme, you can do everything.

The Christian philosophy says God is great, we say how God is great. Simply to know that God is great is not perfection, but to know how He is great is perfect knowledge. Bhagavad-gita explains how God is great.

29. Geetopanishad should be understood according to its original statements:
"The Absolute Truth is described by the Upaniñads and Brahma-sütra, but one must understand the verses as they are. That is the supreme glory in understanding.
PURPORT
It has become fashionable since the time of Çaìkaräcärya to explain everything regarding the çästras in an indirect way. Scholars take pride in explaining everything in their own way, and they declare that one can understand the Vedic scriptures in any way he likes. This "any way you like" method is foolishness, and it has created havoc in the Vedic culture. One cannot accept scientific knowledge in his own whimsical way. In the science of mathematics, for example, two plus two equals four, and one cannot make it equal three or five. Yet although it is not possible to alter real knowledge, people have taken to the fashion of understanding Vedic knowledge in any way they like. It is for this reason that we have presented Bhagavad-gétä As It Is. We do not create meanings by concoction. Sometimes commentators say that the word kurukñetra in the first verse of the Bhagavad-gétä refers to one's body, but we do not accept this. We understand that Kurukñetra is a place that still exists, and according to the Vedic version it is a dharma-kñetra, or a place of pilgrimage. People still go there to perform Vedic sacrifices. Foolish commentators, however, say that kurukñetra means the body and that païca-päëòava refers to the five senses. In this way they distort the meaning, and people are misled. Here Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu confirms that all Vedic literature, including the Upaniñads, Brahma-sütra and others, whether çruti, småti or nyäya, must be understood according to their original statements. To describe the direct meaning of the Vedic scriptures is glorious, but to describe them in one's own way, using imperfect senses and imperfect knowledge, is a disastrous blunder. Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu fully deprecated the attempt to describe the Vedas in this way.

30. The Need of preaching the principles of Bhagavad-Gita all over the world:
The members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness cannot even call themselves brahma-bandhus. Therefore our only means for satisfying Kåñëa is to pursue the injunctions of Lord Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu, who says:
