This Mahabharata means, maha means greater. Formerly 5,000 years ago, the whole planet was called Bharata, India. India it is now called. Actually the name is Bharata. Bharata is the name given after the reign of Maharaja, one King Bharata. He was the ruler, emperor, of the whole world. After his reign this planet is called Bharata, this whole planet, Mahabharata. Krsna Mahabharata and Krsna God is the same person. Why do you differentiate? My question will be how do you differentiate the Krsna Mahabharata and Krsna God different? Because Krsna is speaking Bhagavad-gita. That is a chapter in the Mahabharata. So how do you differentiate? What is the cause that you are differentiating?

So we should not jump. First of all we should read Bhagavad-gita very carefully. Try to understand Krsna, what is Krsna. Then we shall be fit to understand what is Bhagavatam. The last conclusion of Bhagavad-gita is sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja. If we can surrender to Krsna wholeheartedly, then we become eligible to understand what is Krsna. That is the... Bhaktya mam abhijanati. We, if we are advanced in devotional service, then we become fit to understand Krsna.
(Lecture Bhagavad-gita 4.6 Bombay, March 26, 1974)
