PRESCRIBING DRUGS

1. Pre-reading activities

1.1 Read and memorize the words:

chemist’s (pharmacy, drug-store) – аптека

instruction – інструкція

directions – вказівки

label – етикетка

prescription – призначення, рецепт

side effect – побічна дія

indications – показання

contraindications – протипоказання

 

1.2 Match definitions with words.

 

a) Chemist's a piece of paper that is attached to something and gives official information about it.
b) Pharmacist an official piece of paper, on which a doctor writes the type of medicine you should have and which enables you to get it from a chemist.
c) Label a person, whose job is to prepare medicine and sell or give them to the public in a shop or in a hospital.
d) Prescription instructions how to do something, how to use something.
e) Directions a shop /a store that sells medicines and usually also soap, make-up, etc.

 

1.3 Replace the italicized parts of the sentences with

equivalents from the text:

l. When you are sick, you go to the physician.

2. You can buy medicine in a pharmacy.

3. Drugs are made by the pharmacist.

4. Each medicine has instructions.

5. There are different pills at the chemist's.

6. You must use vitamins to be healthy.

 

2. Reading activities

2.1 Read the text carefully and get acquainted with the rules of making prescriptions.
