I. Reading
Student life is thought to be easy, enjoyable and careless. In Britain students have to pay their living expenses and tuition fees but they can get a loan which has to be paid back. In the US students have to pay for tuition and accommodation. Many students take part-time jobs to earn their living.

Students in Great Britain mostly go to university away from their home town and usually live in a hall of residence for the first year, then they rent a room or a house to share it with other students.

British universities have a wide range of activities including sports, drama and politics. In the US students spend a lot of time on social activities, parties and dances.

II. Writing
Dear Emily,
I am a 15-year-old student from Ukraine. My friends say that I am sociable, fun-loving and kind-hearted girl. I am fond of reading about ancient history and cultures around the world. That's why I want to exchange letters with you. I believe we can become good friends.
What are you interested in?
Write me soon.
Yours,
Tania

III. Speaking
People are always asked what they want to be when they leave school. I think it's a pretty tricky question to answer, especially when getting a job seems such a long way off.

When we are choosing a job for ourselves, we should keep in mind all the qualities which are required for it. If we don't possess them, we have to think of another job or try to develop the necessary qualities in ourselves before making the final decision.

I think that I will choose the profession of a lawyer. So I want to enter Taras Shevchenko Kyiv State University, the law faculty. My parents support my decision. I have always been interested in law and believe that this profession is my cup of tea. My friends say that I am a sociable and an easy-going person. I am fast-thinking, logical and quite ambitious. I can easily find the way out of a difficult situation. I have a good memory and analytical skills.

Working as a lawyer involves the practical application of abstract legal theories and knowledge to solve specific individualized problems. In Ukraine, lawyers are general practitioners who take almost any kind of case that walks in the door. Lawyers advise their clients what they should do next.

A high qualification makes a person fit for a certain position. "Every man is the maker of his own fortune," Richard Steele wrote. The person who wants to be highly qualified must have enough knowledge first of all and then improve this knowledge by attending professional development seminars and workshops or by reading specialized literature.
